What’s wrong with loving putting on snuggly warm clothing in winter? Not to mention that I love both warm inside and cold outside in winter.

When I was a child, I loved snow. The adults told me that when I had to start shoveling the walkway and driveway, my love would fade. It did not.

Then I was told that when I learned to drive, I would hate it. First snowstorm after I got my license, I instantly headed out to an empty parking lot to practice donuts. I’ve been caught in sudden storms and watched other cars slide off the road. I still love snow.

Then I was told that when I got a job and had to support a family that I’d hate snow. Yet this has come to pass, and I still squee like a child when snow starts. I long to take walks in it. I dream of sledding, or building snowmen, or throwing snowballs, even in my middle age, even if I can no longer run as I used to.

No, you will never take my love of winter from me. Summer heat, get thee behind me.

I hate driving in the snow and rain, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the weather.

practice donuts

I believe you're looking for the words "whipping shitties"

[–] Balldowern@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I stand by the original statement - I love winter! If some people can't handle it, too bad.

I went on a hike this weekend in -7F. And last week I had ice cream outside in 13F.

Shitty take. It's like: People be like: I love summer and then stay inside in the A/C.

[–] Aedis@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago

Or in a pool. Smh

Also hot chocolate tastes 10x+ better when you’ve been out in the cold.

The trick is you have to be out there for at least 20 minutes to acclimate. Otherwise it just hurts a little and then you get hot when you go back inside.

Source: I work outside in Northern New England including on the sides of mountains.

Gatekeeping people's enjoyment is shitty behavior.

If you judge by that logic, then you gotta be the type to have no favourite seasons at all.

I mean, according to your logic, if you say you like summer, then you gotta first go outside and get under the hot sun and if you don't like being under the hot sun, then you don't like summer. Same logic applies to other seasons too, huh? Man, your logic is ridiculous IMO

You can only be cozy in the cold weather, plus you can wear a coat if it's cold but you can't wear an anti-coat if it's hot. When I was too young to fully understand seasons I used to have nightmares about it suddenly becoming summer because it's just such an awful time of year

❌ hot girl summer

✅ cold bitch winter

[–] DJKJuicy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago

Don't threaten me with a good time.

As an adult I loved winter still. I could be outside, do stuff without suffering heart stroke, and I loved running in the snow with my trail running shoes for 13+ miles.

I now live in the southwest and man so I miss winter.

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

50cm of snow outside. Walking is only option to go anywhere. Even if its a longer walk to take side streets, its a nice walk to have once a year. Going to the beaches in the south next week, and the escape great too, but fresh snow on a quiet walk is an awesome experience.

[–] balsoft@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago

I fucking love me a proper snowy winter. Ideally the temperature should drop below -20 at least a couple times, for that crispy cold-bite feeling. Cross-country skiing, ice skating, winter hiking, or just doing a winter BBQ in the snow, sign me up

[–] sylveon@piefed.blahaj.zone 33 points 2 days ago

At least winter is comfortable inside. Summers get so warm now that there’s often no escape from the heat. Where I live AC used to be completely unnecessary so rental apartments with AC basically don’t exist.

And as someone with a delayed circadian rhythm I also hate daylight saving time. I don’t want to get up an hour earlier every day. Why do morning people get to force their lifestyle on us?

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Jokes on you. I love the cold. I unironically enjoy being out in - 30 weather. Yes its cold as fuck but it feels fucking fresh. If theres a bit of sun too. Perfection.

People be like, "I love pizza," after having a couple of slices for dinner. No. Eat 10 pizzas. Let's see.

[–] dumbass@piefed.social 42 points 2 days ago (5 children)

I like winter because I can control it, you can always get warmer, it's harder to get colder in summer.

I wouldn't say I liked last Friday in Minneapolis, but it was worth it. (TLDR: 50K protesters against ICE presence in -25°F/-30°C windchill)

[–] fenrasulfr@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Yes I love winter and I love being outside during winter, I imagine I would have a whole other perspective if I couldn't afford to heat my home.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago

I just got in from shoveling round one.

I'm thankful that it's cold when it snows, I love sledding with the kids.

But now that there was snow and snowmen and snowball fights, can it please be fucking summer now?

[–] Kacarott@aussie.zone 11 points 1 day ago

I mean the feeling of coziness and warmth inside is a huge part of why winter is so great! I do also actively go hiking, snow-shoeing, skiing, etc in winter and love that too, but that just adds to the beautiful contrast between crisp, fresh winter air and warm cozy indoors.

[–] VibeSurgeon@piefed.social 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

While winter is far from my favourite season, it has its charms:

  • Cold temperature outside means indoors is never too hot for comfort
  • The snow is pretty
  • Winter sports are fun

Given the choice, I would take spring or autumn however, which has more sunlight and better conditions for biking

For me it's partly the cozy socks, partly the fact that people in general aren't out and about as much so it makes the whole world feels less chaotic and overstimulating.

[–] Mesophar@pawb.social 21 points 2 days ago (2 children)

People who don't like winter act like they are freezing to death the second it's below 50F

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 15 points 2 days ago (2 children)

My least favorite thing about winter isn't the weather. It's how little daylight we get.

I love winter so much I pollute as much as I can to speed run though global warming and reach the inevitible ice age after.

[–] brown567@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I literally just came back from a 3 hour walk outside XD

32°F (0°C) feels great =D

[–] Biffsbraincell@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

10°F here. Only a 45 minute walk but it was glorious.

I took from one of my gloves to play around with some snow, and my hand was quickly cold and stiff, but I put it back on and kept walking. 5 minutes later it was toasty warm. The joys of good clothing and body heat.

[–] Prox@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Went hiking with temps in the 20s last weekend. Saw some elk. 10/10 would recommend.

I just got frostbite in my ears yesterday because I was having an absolute blast in -24c weather lol. Once they heal (or fall off idk we'll see, but doctor says they'll probably heal) I'm going to be right back out there again with better headgear. I love the cold, the dark, give me more winter

I imagine having an excuse to never go outside is part of the appeal.
