What do you do if your cat tries wake you up by biting paper, turning on lights, and opening/closing cabinets?

Asking for myself. It's been 15 years without a good solution...

Relentless affection always seemed to work well for me. Hugs and forehead kisses until they are desperately trying to get away, and more if they come back and continue. indirect pestering.... blanket purrito?

[–] limelight79@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

I've got one that's into that. I love that cat, but there are moments...

[–] aichan@piefed.blahaj.zone 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Mine (https://michi.blue/) wakes me up while making horrible lewd meaw noises trying to fuck his favourite plushie. I recently found out that if I throw said plushie to the wherever the fuck I can from my sleep deprived ass in the bed, he shuts up

[–] teft@piefed.social 9 points 2 days ago

Sounds to me like your cat has trained you to play with him even in your sleep.

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You responded 1 time to each of those actions. That's all it took.

Yep. He'll remember it forever. I don't think I can untrain anything now.

I give up, pat the bed beside me where she jumps up, demands some pets then eventually curls up on her own special blanket and goes back to sleep for a couple hours.

6am me disagrees but you're right.

[–] XTL@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

6am me used to disagree, too. Now I kind of miss it.

I feel you bro

I once woke up to one of them standing on my back, paws on my head, smashing my face into the pillow so I couldn't breathe, just shrieking at the back of my head.

Also, when a bag crinkles in any room of the house.

[–] MyBrainHurts@piefed.ca 8 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Ahaha, amazing choice of gif. 10/10, well played.

[–] limelight79@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

For full realism, it should include the part where he liquids into the helicopter.

I have very recently adopted a cat. She's super loveable but full of kitten energy sometimes, very much this gif. She darts for any noise in full hunt mode once the sun sets.

It's this one

Two of my cats would stand outside and scream meow for at least an hour before giving up. The chaos goblin would accept this is her life and go lay on the couch before realizing she has free run of the kitchen and start fucking up all the cereal boxes full of crinkly paper. The oldest goes under doors. There is no stopping her. She will find you.

[–] MyBrainHurts@piefed.ca 16 points 2 days ago (2 children)

UNDER the door? I'm not even mad, just impressed.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Cats are liquid.

[–] justme@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

Depends on the doors, I hope they don't live in a region where you need to heat a lot

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My cat is chill about pretty much everything. I've never before had a cat so content and compliant. When I was the one feeding him in the morning, he never woke me up, he'd just sleep on the bed waiting for me. Once I was awake, though, he was a bit of a pest until I got up. But, even then, if I didn't immediately get up, he'd calm down and just wait. Coolest cat ever, I'll miss him when he's gone, he probably only has a couple of years left.

[–] justme@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We have two cats who are quiet chill, just want that you do something with them from time to time. One of them was trying different methods of waking us up for breakfast, which are all quiet nice. The one he settled with is sitting on our chest, looking in our face and starts purring. Better then any alarm clock.

I hope your buddy will stay around for long time!

[–] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I also choose this guy's purring cat.

[–] thenextguy@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And it will not stop. Ever. Until it is fed.

[–] MyBrainHurts@piefed.ca 9 points 2 days ago

Nicely done!

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Why I had to install a cat door to my bedroom. Fucking cat will meow as loud as she can until you let her in. And working from home it becone an issue.

[–] MissJinx@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

OMG I thought that I was the only weirdo that did that. All my doors have cat doors now.

[–] iltoroargento@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I've been looking into this but haven't pulled the trigger yet lol

Is there a model that may be better for interior doors?

[–] FlyingCrow@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I ended up installing a cat door too. Grabbed one at my local hardware store and installed it easily. This one has red tabs (looks like an old model, the new ones have an easy selector knob) that allow you to set it so that it acts as a one-way door in either direction, or lock it both ways. Comes in handy for different days. This one is made by PetSafe, but I'm sure they're all the same.

[–] iltoroargento@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 2 days ago

Nice. I was looking at the selector kind as well. I'll check them out. Thanks!
