It’s incredible how consistently tone deaf and oblivious German political leadership is these days

Pragmatically hes right. EU is not in a place to cut ties. They need more time to diversify their trade. They are still in a war that requires American arms.

His tone is not speaking to the average Joe.

What I mean is that Germany should have taken this fucking seriously at some point between 2014 and now. Because to many people - including myself - it looks like they’re doing essentially fuck-all, and are being so punctiliously bureaucratic that they’re going to procedure themselves into an early fucking grave. The willful ignorance is absolutely astounding.

Nobody cares what Friedrich "we need to treat workers like slaves" Merz thinks.

[–] Strider@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You'd be surprised how many support ol 'Fritz. (to their detriment)

I dont think so. He barely became the Bundeskanzler in the last ellections. Needles to say he is a Blackrock asset, and does what his bosses say.

Its people I talk to. They're like OK he's not the best but still better than .

It's like we're not even trying to improve life anymore.

Hold your horses man, the fascists aren't even asking you to capitulate yet. Give them a chance to actually start invading shit first. These guys sure are eager to roll over for trump, aren't they?

Fuck off Merz, you seventh hand cancler. Go suck money in your Moneyvault and never come out again!

Happy vassal hoping to appease their lord.

What a strange sentiment in the comments. If anyone underestimates the gravity of the situation, it's people who call for cutting all ties with the US immediately. Trying to stay on good terms with the US while becoming more independent ASAP is basically the only option we have at all.

[–] dfyx@lemmy.helios42.de 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think it's more of a general sentiment against Merz. He pushes for longer work days, fewer public holidays, later retirement, "incentives" for people to still work part-time during retirement, fewer protections for workers overall and worse social security. The guy is massively unpopular so nobody trusts that these statements come from any sensible reasoning.

Yeah, I mean, fair enough, fuck Merz. If I'm to shame hom, I won't shame him for being right for once tho
