Libbo 1biden-alert :

I feel like this sort of post is more likely from Russian bots than actual humans..

Like it's basically dehumanizing Americans that are showing some actual empathy.

canadian kkkanada : lmao its absolutely not, its telling you to call your fucking senators and congresspeople before he fucking cancels elections

I can assure you were are doing so in record numbers.

Only 1 in 5 Americans voted for him. I've seen estimates of over 10,000 protests in the past year.

This reply really proves my post. Expressing empathy ≠ doing nothing. The people upset about it here are quite often doing a lot more than posting online.

Libbo 2 jokermala

Oh well thanks, I will go change things now that you mention it. What a helpful suggestion we'd not yet thought of.

Libbo 3 obama-prism

“focus on actually changing something while you still can”

My Swedish homie there have been protests on basically every weekend since Donald Trump took office. The state of Minnesota has been protesting daily for the past 2 weeks.

Things change w/ elections, which is in Nov.

bro, just give me 11 months

The american people yearn for freedom

Everything that critics Americans nowaday is a Russian bot, it seems. You guys should stop thinking you are the good guys, start accepting the world sees you as the bad guys. Exactly as not all Russian are bad guys, I dont think all north Americans are. But exactly as Russians, you are responsible. In fact, you guys have historically caused more harm to the world than Russians. We see you as you are: profit drunk cowboys coming from a third world country with an impressive military budget. If a policeman would deport a 5 years old to a concentration camp, in Europe would start a Civil War. So yes, you are guilty also for what you created at home. Inaction is a sin, when you have the constitutional right to bear arms to defend from authoritarians governments. Amd please, marching means really nothing when they shoot.

[–] DancingBear@midwest.social 1 points 8 hours ago

I think it should be critiques, not critics

[–] into_highest_invite@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

they have no idea how things actually happen. not one liberal questions what "[parade]s on basically every weekend" has done to stop anything. they never wonder what makes these changes actually happen, they just know that martin luther king walked around a sidewalk for a long time and then racism disappeared. they should just stay at home and pray. at least then someone would be able to articulate the mechanism by which they expect actual change to be accomplished.

[–] ReallyCoolDude@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago

I am more apalled by liberals. It is like north Americans live in a perpetual state of cognitive dissonance.

Trying to explain to my fellow Americans why we put sanctions on other countries makes perfect sense until I say, "and that's why other countries may have to put sanctions on us."

They follow the pieces like, "How is that not collective punishment?!" and "they should only put the sanctions on red states" (they kind of already tried that, and capitalism routed around it).

What Donald Trump has convinced the world to do is even worse than sanctions, He's convinced them to look at a future without reliance upon the United States.

Americans don't seem to understand who actually pays for all of our shit. Through the petro dollar we were able to hide the damage as we inflated the currency. We kept inflating it just to keep showering money on rich people. That gravy train has ended but we are still showering money on rich people.

The government doesn't even have to print money to cause hyperinflation. The world just has to stop using our money to do stuff and we fold like soggy cardboard.

Trying to explain to my fellow Americans why we put sanctions on other countries

Because they won't let you exploit them freely and hand over all their natural resources and labor for less than they're worth? Often just because they want to make political decisions slightly different from those the American bourgeois want them to make? American sanctions have very different motivations vs. hypothetical sanctions against America IMO.

They follow the pieces like, "How is that not collective punishment?!"

The irony of Americans saying this given what their sanctions do to others around the world is pretty incredible.

"Hey please stop coming into our subreddit begging for forgiveness. It's tiring and honestly it's hard to forgive someone for an ongoing thing. If you want to feel better about yourself, try doing something about it instead of just offloading your guilt on the victims of your regime. I know that might sound kind of mean, but honestly think about how you feel about Russia. You'd probably get annoyed if your subreddit was spammed by sorry russians apologising for an ongoing war, especially if it seemed like they're not doing anything."

wojak-nooo I AM NOT RUSSIAN! I said I was sorry, what more do you want? You're the russian actually

Edit: all the Americans getting angry over that post really highlights the whole "half of America can't read" thing

[–] Salah@hexbear.net 48 points 2 days ago (1 children)

When I was a teenager I had to learn and deal with the fact that I grew up in an oppressive system and that as long as I wasn’t actively unlearning propaganda and resisting the oppressive factors I was contributing to it. It was a very painful realisation and I needed some time to learn how to deal with this reality. A lot of white liberals have not had this realisation and are very hostile to the idea that they might be associated to bad things.

I think it has to do with the fact that white people in the imperial core grow up with a superiority complex, because they learn that they live in this nearly perfect system that was built by their ancestors (white people) in which everyone has a say and everyone is constantly working to fix issues that come to light. People from an ethnic minority learn from a young age that the system is rotten and don’t have this rigid self righteous worldview. I have no idea how to break this apart for people.

[–] Moss@hexbear.net 27 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Kinda blows my mind that liberals are simply lacking in guilt. Either they shy away from the overwhelming evidence of the brutality of the empire they support, or they simply ignore it.

[–] Salah@hexbear.net 23 points 1 day ago

Idk about you but I was heavily indoctrinated by the idea that everything bad that my country did was either in the past or a mistake due to wrong assumptions or bad leadership. This whole system of imperialism is completely invisible to most people in the imperial core. Obviously a lot of people stay wilfully ignorant, but the propaganda and indoctrination make it very easy to do that. There is a liberal explanation for everything if you just refuse to look at the larger picture.

[–] BeanisBrain@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago

I think many of them actually bear quite a lot of guilt and that's why they get so uncomfortable when you bring up the bad shit America does.

  1. we're all in this boat together. It's not like Europe is not a group of colonizers and the industry leaders don't know each other on a first name basis

  2. the shit that they did to Bernie Sanders is astounding. The US election is a build-a-burger contest held by McDonald's. "Bag of lettuce" isn't going to win even if it has the most votes. You vote a lib in and the result of the Greenland incident is a two state solution. It's designed to ratchet. The Dems are designed to be so unappealing that a Republican gets through and their purpose to to be a backstop from the transgressions. China's not the only one with 5 year plans.

  3. Everyone knows how to talk shit until boots are on the ground looking at you. You'd shut the fuck up if the tables were turned; you're no black panther.

[–] ReallyCoolDude@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

To buy a gun i need to speak with the mafia. You can buy a gun at walmart. All these socials, and 0 political organisation.

[–] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 1 points 22 hours ago

Not American, but I get the sentiment. I have some empathy for how labor was ground into a fine red mist and you'd have to build it up nearly from scratch. In the meantime you're dealing with people who'd sooner side with Hitler than speak out against the Holocaust as the self-declared left party. The solution to the SS is to give them more funding for de-escalation training.

If you'd go out and be seen with a big gun with your ragtag team then you have my respect. But that shit is spooky as hell.

[–] Hexamerous@hexbear.net 82 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Liberals when carrying out a collective punishment, through sanctions and bombings, against the defenseless population while demanding they take action against "their dictatorship".

"They need to stand up against the regime." nl-smug

Liberals, with easy access to guns and ammunition, when they're asked to take responsibility for their self-proclaimed "democracy":

wojak-nooo "Shut up bot!!! We just need to vote!! I didn't vote for this!"

[–] EchoVerse@hexbear.net 56 points 2 days ago

This is so on point. They expect people in already difficult conditions to "stand up against the regime" but then fail to stand up against theirs without any sort of introspection.

the same thing applies to the US too, except you had the power to choose your president

American bourgeois elections are valid, but Russia's bourgeois elections are invalid because the news told me it's a bad country.

The fact that Russia's president has double the approval rating of America's proves, paradoxically, that they're less democratic.

[–] huf@hexbear.net 1 points 5 hours ago

this is an ancient rewarmed take, it was used to explain away the high approval rating of communist governments in the warsaw pact countries. by liberals living in those very countries.

Lib on lib violence here

Like it's basically dehumanizing Americans that are showing some actual empathy.

The complete lack of self-awareness always leaves me speechless. Like what do you say to this? "How dare you dehumanize me (they didn't), it's probably because you aren't human yourself!!"

90% of liberals quit dehumanising races

Already wrong lmao, drop a 0 and it's still wrong

[–] yunqihao@hexbear.net 48 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I think the joke is that on a subconscious level this is the liberal pov that they cant stop dehumanizing races because what if they're right this time. Like the picture of the guy mining and he turns back just before he hits diamonds.

This is word-for-word what I have heard liberals say about anti-war Russians.

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 36 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Even if we take at face value the idea that the situations are equivalent (they aren't), anti-war Russians face more consequences than anti-war Yankees do. The primary purpose of Yankee liberals showing up to the subreddit of a European colony and repeatedly apologizing that their government is threatening to colonize it twice over is definitely to make themselves feel better and not to actually help the people being colonized.

On the other hand, it's really funny that the reddit moderator posting this is Swedish.

[–] forcefemjdwon@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I will say the Americans here are pathetic, but by treating the American capitalist and proletarian classes as a single "American class," the OP is turning an issue of capital into one of the nation. They are giving us all an excellent example of false consciousness and how that undermines proletarian internationalism.

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I generally agree, I just don't think the situation is identical to Russia/Ukraine. As I said, OOP is a Swedish lib so I don't trust the motivations behind the post.

However, the sentiment would be understandable and not incorrect from a Greenlander. I very much doubt the American proletariat would actually do anything at all to oppose this unless they thought it would personally harm them.

[–] forcefemjdwon@hexbear.net 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The American proletariat in all likelihood will not do shit, but that does not mean you can replace the Marxist theory of class struggle with natlibpessimism just because the international working class is at a historical low point .

Lmao those libs think those are somehow useful comments. "We've been protesting since 2016 and have nothing to show for it! Obviously you're a Russian bot!"

They say that like there aren't a bunch of Russians in prison for actually opposing Putin. Gary Kasparov, turbo lib that he is, did a few months for protesting Putin getting reelected.
