"Trolls"? Fuck off, seriously. He's going to invade and bomb Greenland and what, are the headlines just going to read "Trump trolls Nuuk citizens"?

Is Trump going to invade and bomb Canada and we'll get to see headlines the next day saying "Epic troll, Trump just flattened Ottawa"? Sorry, I guess "we" as in the rest of the world will see those headlines because I'd be dead

Fuck

[–] one_step_behind@quokk.au 77 points 3 days ago (3 children)

It's the media continuing to sane wash Trump rather than do actual journalism.

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 27 points 3 days ago

It's what happens when conservatives buy up the remaining newspapers.

I watched a movie from the 90s yesterday about civil war breaking out in America. There's a scene where one newsanchor calmly tries to report on other news and the other newsanchor has an absolute meltdown telling him "fuck off, there is no other news". I wanna see a reporter melt down like on air in real life. I wanna see the insanity be properly acknowledged

[–] SwingingTheLamp@piefed.zip 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Turns out that the movie Don't Look Up may have been intended to satirize our response to climate change, but the portrayal of the media response is evergreen.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

The movie I'm talking about is called Second Civil War

[–] NotSteve_@piefed.ca 10 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Yeah, I'm generally used to American media doing that by now but this headline is just so absurdly dismissive of non-American lives that it's infuriating

[–] thecaptaintrout@lemmy.zip 93 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I wouldn't use the word 'troll', maybe 'mask off'.

Edit: u/shittydwarf had "Threatens", definitely a better word.

[–] comrade_twisty@feddit.org 36 points 3 days ago

Yeah troll is something that does not apply to a US president, even if they are mentally challenged and have the brainpower of a 8 year old spoiled child.

[–] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 81 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Hitler trolls European Leaders with German Map showing Austria, Sudetenland, and Danzig as German territories.

[–] msage@programming.dev 2 points 1 day ago

Maybe we should let him have some of that land, then he will chill out.

Let him have some Poland, too, as a treat.

[–] Klear@quokk.au 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That Hitler guy is such a rascal!

[–] West_of_West@piefed.social 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What shenanigans will he get up to this week?

oh, but surely he wouldn’t actually annex his neighbors! Nobody wants a repeat of the Great War!

[–] Binturong@lemmy.ca 33 points 2 days ago (2 children)

This media can't differentiate between trolling and threats. Just like tRump 'floating' wildly illegal actions to test popularity and desensitize the public before just doing them regardless. I haven't decided whether this is intentional misrepresentation and journalistic malpractice, or ignorance and incompetence (a different kind of malpractice), but I do know the outcome is the same either way.

[–] Bogus007@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Do you expect professionalism from the US under Orange man?

[–] Binturong@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What about my comment makes you think I would?

[–] Bogus007@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This media … ignorance and incompetence

What makes you think that this media is ignorant or incompetent? These are strong words, which IMHO need to be proven. Otherwise it is a simple rant related to frustration.

[–] Binturong@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They sure are, and I don't owe you a thesis statement on how I concluded this, opinions don't need proving to being with and I know that I've been exposed to, and critical of all political perspectives in US media for years. I did not ask for your "humble opinion" which is far from humble when presented as more valid than mine since it's assumed your rejection of my opinion doesn't require evidence of any sort, and I have no interest in entertaining your ignorance. If you would care to objectively assess the state of legacy media in the US under constant threat from tRump and his crony led FCC, I invite you to do so, and then perhaps we could have a serious discussion. Until then, and because you only seem able to criticize the terminology I use while ignoring the point, I'm going to ignore you because I think your only goal in responding to me is distraction and suppression.

[–] Bogus007@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What do you then mean by „this media”? The singular form tells me you are thinking of a particular media like Lemmy. May be we have a misunderstanding here, because what concerns Trump and his entourage, I suppose we share the same thoughts as almost all users here.

[–] Binturong@lemmy.ca 1 points 23 hours ago

You have to be more careful when presuming. The singular form is medium, media IS the pluralistic form. I say the US media as a blanket term that includes both legacy corporate news, credible journalism groups like AP and Reuters, and independent US based outlets. I am aware of my 'leftist' bias in so far as partisan labels have any use, but I believe politics is more nuanced than that, and put critical thinking and historical education above partisanship when I can. I don't know what thoughts we share, but I'm sure there was some sort of miscommunication.

He’s not doing this. Someone’s feeding it to him.

Congress and Senate is virtually silent on the issues. This isn’t just Trump; this is representative of the USA.

[–] bonenode@piefed.social 22 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That is what concerns me the most. There should be so much opposition to crap like this. Like he shouldn't even be able to just show that, this goes through so many people beforehand.

[–] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

There's no way he's opening photoshop and layering the US flag over those countries himself. Maybe he asked someone to do it or he was feed the photo and he passed it by.

He’s getting better at distracting us from the Epstein Files.

[–] trollercoaster@sh.itjust.works 18 points 3 days ago (2 children)

As if that mattered.

He has established a dictatorship where he clearly is above any law and all other scrutiny. Whether he stuck his dick some place forbidden or not won't undo him.

I mean, trying to start WWIII is probably a bigger deal than anything we could find in the Epstein files. I'm not sure commiting even worse acts counts as a distraction.

[–] k_rol@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 days ago

Wtf I had actually forgotten

[–] Jimbel@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

What is the us-american opposition doing about this? Trump is literally threatening ww3 and if not stopped he will start it.

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 3 days ago

That's a troll? It seems a lot more like an open provocation from the least stable mind on the planet.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

Every day he draws breath is a day the world gets worse.

[–] radiofreebc@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's not trolling...that's a threat that needs to be taken seriously. Wake up, America...you're losing your country to fascists.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 5 points 2 days ago

Meh, americans still trust the controlled opposition to stop them. It's hopeless.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

Stop. Trade.

Freeze him out.

[–] ms_lane@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

It's what Elon's grandaddy would have wanted.

[–] Bazell@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Jokes aside, but what have Greenland and Canada even done to him so that he wants to invade them? I got the Venezuela reasons, but is this really again because of the oil reserves?

[–] Binturong@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Your first mistake is thinking someone has to do something for him to act the way he does. Even the rationalization for the illegal actions against Venezuela was contrived as a fig leaf to cover him just doing what he wants to for his own profit. The reason is there's profit to extort for him and his oligarchy buddies, but they'll come up with 20 justifications after the fact just to make you feel consoled.

[–] Bazell@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Then, his actions are no better than actions of any invasive leader. Madlad is actively dumping the country down the slope. I am really amazed how there were no new attempts to kill him.

[–] Binturong@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

Correct. Unfortunately the groups that typically would invest real assets in assassination are the ones with all the money, and one thing he's not doing is threatening their power and profits in a meaningful way. He desperately wants to be one of the gangster oligarchs, and would never cross them cause he is cucked to their opulence (see: Putin). People talk about blackmail material controlling his actions, and I'm sure there is that too, but I'm just as sure they don't need it. No, real preemptive assassination attempts tend to target socialists and equalists and those who stand a real chance at elevating the disenfranchised and bridging the gap in the class war. Can't have that. Mind you, assassination after the damage has already been inflicted is not unheard of, like Mussolini, but that's more of a vengeful act and pyrrhic victory cause it's too damn late. Anyway, happy Tuesday!

I wish my kids would grow out of this bad behavior

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

What a loser

[–] redditmademedoit@piefed.zip 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He wants to own Greenland, but moreso he wants to "own the libs".

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 days ago

He wants to own everything he can see and it still won't be enough to fill the empty husk of a man he is.
