I don't mean this as a criticism of you or your post. I just want people to know that I didn't intend for this sub to have any relation to the slop comm.

The reason I requested this comm is that I wanted a place to observe cultural trends or cultural events that are interesting. Somewhat related to entertainment, somewhat related to politics. It doesn't have to fit into the category of good or bad. A good descriptor word would be 'zeitgeist'. Sometimes I see a story and I don't really know how to feel about it but I want other people to see it.

The chapotraphouse comm is culture related but limited to a specific subculture. Sometimes I would post a story that I think is interesting and someone would complain that they don't want to see such a post.

Some inspirations for the comm: r/fauxmoi (popculture and politics), Taylor Lorenz (internet culture journalist and politics), Rolling Stone (culture and politics magazine), popbase (twitter account about pop culture and also posts in support of palestine)

An example of cultural phenomenon is like when Peanut the Squirrel was euthanized for being suspected of having rabies, in October 2024. Then Republicans used the story in Trump's campaign to say that the squirrel was killed by government overreach.

I am writing this comment because I want more people to use the comm. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with your post.

Will Stancil is on a very weird political awakening trip.

Hey sometimes we all go thru some shit, right?

It's a good development but it's far too deterministic and idealistic for my tastes. Any sort of uprising is much more than merely a mathematical equation and libs love to vulgarize the work of Chenoweth by trotting out that mythical 3.5%, as if to say that all you need to do is to sign up that percentage of a population to an idea and suddenly change becomes a political inevitability.

I really wish it was that easy because then I could go door knocking instead of grappling with theory.

I mean, door knocking is often necessary for organising. Numbers do matter

Will Stancil frantically searching for an unfrozen rain barrel so he can rust up a straight razor

I don't understand this expression, what does it mean?

Back in 2019-2020 Biden was telling the story about a guy in Delaware called Cornpop. Supposedly some type of gang-leader / violent criminal, who was not happy with Biden being a lifeguard at the segregated swimming pool. Cornpop would dip his razor blades in rain-barrels to make them more dangerous, because a cut from a rusty blade is likely to get infected. Biden told the story a few times and each time it was completely incomprehensible.

[–] Blakey@hexbear.net 15 points 3 weeks ago

Cornpop was a bad dude

(Biden claimed that the razor cornpop threatened him with was rusty when he told that weird story)

such a weird arc

Still a little sceptical of Will's ultimate motives - I mean, he's a "housing policy analyst" or whatever - but you cannot deny that Comrade Stancil is committed.

Here he is following ICE vehicles for several minutes, presumably honking the entire time:

Somebody invite this guy to Hexbear please!
