Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Let's be honest now: it's common knowledge, even in America, that everyone from Thiel to Chomsky, passing through the entire political apparatus, was friends with Epstein and putting 2 and 2 together you understand that the closer the relationship, the more kids that were fucked. Do we need a picture? Several videos? This whole "release the files" is nothing but something Americans say to soothe their souls, as if they truly needed more proof, as if the files being released would trigger an anti-imperialistic, prosocial revolution that puts all of this behind (excess in this way comes easy to those who already don't respect human life, like those who are already murdering and pillaging merrily, these things are connected because they all come from a vacuum of morals and ideology besides "fuck you, I got mine", lol). Come on, now.

Literally no amount of evidence on Trump will change anything. Still clinging onto that belief is obstructive optimism.

No, it's not "soothing" to say "release the files that prove Trump raped children". We say it because we still want to believe there is, in fact, a line too evil to cross for MAGAts. Something so despicable, it breaks their idol. Nothing else has worked properly yet. Will this?

[–] athatet@lemmy.zip 4 points 4 days ago

Spoiler alert.

It won’t.

[–] ieGod@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago

The rule of law means nothing. The truth is whatever they want it to be. These files won't change a thing.

If anybody in any position of power therr was innocent they'd do it themselves. Given what everybody "knows" I'd want my name as cleared as possible.

I personally believe its simply a blackmail game where "we're all in this together now" and theres only a handful of evil thats sticking to everyone even remotely involved, but the more this drags on the less I believe it.

[–] Apytele@sh.itjust.works 7 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

I genuinely think that there's a point in every political career (probably at about the mid-to large city level) where you go to a networking event and they take you into a back room with a kid and tell you to rape them on camera or your career ends there. I don't think it's possible to reach any position of real power without letting the existing powers have some kind of blackmail material on you.

Pretty much. Showbiz is close, except you're the one selling your body to some gross old white dude with jowls, and it's no secret for instance there was a "blonde boom" back in the Weinstein days because that's what he liked to fuck.

They were always in there together but somewhere down the line they had some dispute amongst themselves and the whole Epstein thing happened and now the cat's out of the bag and the situation has to be managed but everyone is trying not to lose face whilst doing it, or it was a miscalculation by Mossad (Epstein was Mossad, just in case you were not aware), or one by an American three letter agency. Regardless, they were always in there together, even American "leftist heroes" (if they're not silenced and live freely in America when the empire kills innocents around the world for less, one should be wary), and there are enough publicly available pictures for anyone to understand that whatever colour your team is, they're in cahoots, get paid by the same folk and touch the same kids.

I don't understand this take. Trump has a huge following that won't believe any evidence, but besides those fucks, evidence will always hold value to anyone not in that cult. It might even snap a few of them out of it.

[–] adhd_traco@piefed.social 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Exactly, and in the future it can also be used. It can be used in conjunction with other efforts. It allows to report on these things with hard facts that provides levels of protection, even in the current system. And if anyone looks up from their cult-dream, there is gonna be something strong to look at.

Saying it's "to soothe the soul" to shining light on truth of such dimensions is incredibly ignorant.

Also, if it's so meaningless and won't change anything, it's pretty weird they fight hard on every front to keep it away.

I think some people are very limited in their understanding of how it can be utilized.

Guess there's no point writing, investigating, or sharing anything about cults either, since many still exist and people are so stuck in them.

Also, with less than 1% selectively, and heavily redacted released, I wouldn't believe anyone who makes assumptions about the entirety of its contents.

Sorry, ~~OP~~ ~~top parent commenter~~ OCP. I'm sure you mean well and are being genuine, but to me this isn't thought through far enough and stupid defeatism in essence.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Very well put. I envy communication skills like you've displayed here.

[–] adhd_traco@piefed.social 2 points 4 days ago

Thank you. I do try not to get too engaged in arguments and all though and try to focus more on direct efforts.

The problem here is that, even for entry level positions in Donald's administration, one had to affirmatively concede that conspiracy theories are real. They were asking 20-something kids wanting to paper push if they believed the 2020 election was stolen. Then they allowed DOGE to purge all of the people who believe in traditional, functional government after that. This isn't 2016 where Donald surrounded himself with grownups.

I don't know that there's anyone left willing to go out on a limb and pull a Chelsea Manning or an Edward Snowden, and that's who you need if you ever want the unredacted files out in the world.

Hopefully someday someone proves me wrong, but I can only assume that this is an Eyes Wide Shut situation where the names in those files are so terrifying that it's inconceivable for anyone to ever release them in full.

[–] tehmics@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You can simply lie. Same way we all get through a job interview

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

I'm not 100% sure it's that simple at that level, especially if you belong to the generation that's been online since birth. Those footprints can be easily tracked and verified.

[–] tehmics@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Sure they could. Will they be? Doubtful

[–] thatradomguy@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

I am seriously wondering what all the hacktivist groups like Anonymous are doing rn. Surely they're not ok with everything going on like fr wtf will it take for somebody to finally leak that shit. At this point, need to one up that even. Do that, and then hack all of the GOP. Do it all. Make them lose everything. I want their addresses, socials, everything. Leak it. See how they like living like the rest of us.

Trans people aren't your sacrificial lambs.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Who said anything about trans people?

[–] LuceVendemiaire@lemmy.dbzer0.com -3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

we all know what you mean by striped thigh highs, don't play dumb

[–] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 9 points 4 days ago

What do you mean? Those are just my programming socks

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I don't. What does it mean? How does it equate to "trans" only?

[–] Grace_Schlick@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Well now you know, thigh high striped socks are up there with ikea blåhajer as symbols of trans girls.

[–] Goodlucksil@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 5 days ago

This is a job for Anonymous.

[–] fnrir@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 5 days ago

This is a job for the gay furry hackers (again)

[–] DylanMc6@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

By "Epstein Files", I mean the entire declassified files. Seriously!

[–] beSyl@slrpnk.net 4 points 5 days ago
[–] MalReynolds@slrpnk.net 4 points 5 days ago

Tut, decent hacker shouldn't need to take one, how about they get off scot free because no one knows who they are.

[–] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

You do it. My new thigh highs are being delivered.

[–] TheLeadenSea@sh.itjust.works -2 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I thought they were already released?

[–] not_woody_shaw@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

About 1%, apparently. Heavily (and poorly) redacted.

"Hackers have unredacted the Epstein files!"

The hacking: Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C, click into open word document, Ctrl+V

[–] DylanMc6@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 days ago

Just redacted a bit, I assume
