THE POLICE PROBLEM

4313 readers

The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.

99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.

When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.

When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."

When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.

Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.

The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.

All this is a path to a police state.

In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.

Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.

    That's the solution.

Our definition of ‘cops’ is broad, and includes prison guards, probation officers, shitty DAs and judges, etc — anyone who has the authority to fuck over people’s lives, with minimal or no oversight.

RULES

Real-life decorum is expected. Please don't say things only a child or a jackass would say in person.

If you're here to support the police, you're trolling. Please exercise your right to remain silent.

Saying ~~cops~~ ANYONE should be killed lowers the IQ in any conversation. They're about killing people; we're not.

Please don't dox or post calls for harassment, vigilantism, tar & feather attacks, etc.

Please also abide by the instance rules.

It you've been banned but don't know why, check the moderator's log. If you feel you didn't deserve it, hey, I'm new at this and maybe you're right. Send a cordial PM, for a second chance.

It sure is fun seeing our tax dollars pay 30 racist shitstains to go terrorize one man in his home.

Remember when conservatives were claiming we needed to cut costs a year ago and that's why they were voted the way they did. Federal expenses are higher than ever, new jobs haven't met population growth nor has there been a single plan to better that since Trump became president. "We want peace" yet they make excuses for threats to several countries and attacks made on multiple countries. Our imports are up year over year, not down. Meaning any bs someone tells you that tariffs were supposed to help is is bullshit.

The only thing that happened is they taxed the American people to shit, threatened citizens, attacked citizens, killed citizens, and are redistributing the money to the rich. A shit ton of money being given to banks/wallstreet to keep the economy from looking like a collapse.

Where are those loans going... Probably to fund more data centers to eat up the energy supply and raise energy costs for the average person even father... With 0 plans to expand infrastructure to support the people.

200 billion dollars later. More than any militaries except the us and china.

Predictably the main motivation for congress and the executive is extracting money for their pals. That follows for all of them, but the republicans are next level borrow and spend. They will max out the credit card before they lose power in all liklihood.

That's how many they went through before they found one fit enough to jump the fence.

The USA is a third world banana republic

[–] Cosmonauticus@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Depending on your race, sexuality, and religion always has been

[–] kunaltyagi@programming.dev 1 points 2 days ago

Banana republics had structure in the grimdark world. In USA, there's no structure to this madness

I know having cameras won't always change the situation you're in but I'm glad he did have cameras so at least we could see what happened and so there might be a chance of there one day being justice.

I urge everyone to get security cameras.

Texas you say? Shoot at them on sight.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

Yeah, that doesn't work so well when there's a dozen or more of the fascist bastards and they're all more heavily armed than you are..

[–] 7U5K3N@lemmy.dbzer0.com 43 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

That black panther guy put it correctly..

I can't find the video... but basically it was "Roll with more of us than them and carry bigger weapons."

He's not wrong.

[–] brognak@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 2 days ago

More bodies and bigger guns, make them think twice.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 5 points 2 days ago

That's how they chased them out of North Minneapolis.

[–] Hawk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 2 days ago

I was wondering why they always move in large groups, but this is probably the reason.

[–] zr0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You are so close to the real solution. Soooo close.

The second you draw your gun, ICE has a case against you.

[–] filcuk@lemmy.zip 13 points 2 days ago

They obviously don't need to have anything at all against you to cause violence or even death.
I'm not saying people should start shooting, this is just a terrible no-win scenario.

[–] zr0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

LOL. They murder people without reason. They don’t need a case.

Kill or be killed.

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

In for a penny in for a pound.

[–] qevlarr@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It's like this old joke. Draw your gun and you're dead. Being right legally doesn't help you one bit if the Gestapo are after you. Fight back, sure, but don't be stupid thinking the law is going to protect you here

[–] HisArmsOpen@crust.piefed.social 33 points 3 days ago

Organised, entitled and now empowered vigilante racist groups.
Will we shortly be seeing businesses "repatriated" to TRUE American ownership?
Will we shortly be seeing black and brown people hanging from trees?

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 44 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Look at all that freedom. A shining turd on a hill, for everyone to smell. When it rains you can wallow in it.

Such bravery. Such liberty and justice for none. A shithole. A no-go zone.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 35 points 3 days ago

What fuck all those fuckers for 1 unarmed man. Look at that last dude can't even run.

Texas is full of weak men that like to talk themselves up. It’s part of their culture.

How do you know when someone is from Texas? They tell you.
