Yesterday at the White House, Venezuela’s opposition leader María Corina Machado, who was awarded the prize late last year, gave her medal to the POTUS in recognition of what she described as his committment to Venezuela’s freedom. This came after Trump greenlit an American operation that has seen Venezuela’s leader Nicolás Maduro arrested and taken to the U.S.

She didn't give him the Nobel Peace Prize-- she gave him the medal that came with the award, all tarted up in a frame with three ass-kissing plaques.

The award is still hers and always will be.

[–] desertdruid@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 2 weeks ago

the prize is a joke anyway, she didn't deserve it

[–] lividweasel@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

…and the Peace Prize medal gets the winner’s name engraved on the edge. I really wonder if that medal in the frame still has her name on it, or if he went full-petty and had it scrubbed off and his name engraved instead.

I don’t think Trump has any concept of institutional entities. He thinks the Nobel prize is a physical thing, and the government of Venezuela is a person. He doesn’t think he’s bound by laws because he can’t see or touch them.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

I would love to live in such a simple universe. Like, where people are desperately trying to get the prize itself, like it's some kind of Duck Tales mcguffin that you have to get in a wacky race with a dozen other competitors to acquire physically.

Picturing chemists and researchers climbing over each other to be the last one holding the sacred golden disc.

I have a relative with dementia, sometimes they pick something up and say "this is mine" even though they don't really know what the object they are holding is or what it is for.

Same energy coming from Trump

[–] RaoulDuke85@piefed.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

Well he thinks he owns the US govt....but at this point he might actually be correct.

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 24 points 2 weeks ago

What a fucking cringe face. He's such an immature baby man child, he's demented, and a sociopath. I cannot stand this person and the world would be better off without him.

It would be great if one day we all woke up and someone decided to subtract.

[–] redlemace@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

She might have given him the medal but she still is the rightful winner. Trump however is so vain, he will say "See, look here ... I have it, I'm the peace prize winner. Actually I'm the best prize winner this planet has ever seen. The best the planet will ever see" and even believe so himself.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 15 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

That rightful winner as you put her, is a zionist, openly encouraging the US government to run a coup in her country, which they did. Only a braindead delusional committee could think she was a good choice for the nobel prize. As if the nobel committee had any credibility, Obama was an indictment of their understanding, to say nothing of other bad picks.

They need to liquidate the entire committee and find a way to revamp the process, definitely cut politicians out, and also apologize and explain how they will fix these bad choices, for them to have any credibility outside the sheep.

[–] redlemace@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

Hey, i did not say they made the right choice. (Her giving it to trump says it all).

I was just thinkging about how so many of their mistakes lead to Trump yesterday. Was thinking that if I could go back and prevent them from giving it to Obama we may never have had to deal with Trump

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

That's what happens when you let the Norwegians give the price, smh. /sj

I swear I recently read that Machado was opposing dicktater. What the fuck happened? The fact she seems to be coddling him makes me question why she even got it in the first place.

edit1: you can't write this stuff... she literally got the prize for, "her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy." I guess she is like every other power tripping fuck that gets a whiff of money.

https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/peace/2025/machado/facts/

edit2: I can't find any news on her opposing him, I must have hallucinated that. It seems this peace prize thing was to schmooze him into backing her, I guess.

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5671488-trump-machado-venezuela-opposition-leader/

She actually looks like Heath Ledger's Joker, who just blew up a hospital and wiped off the makeup

machado looks like the jonkler

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

She's a neoliberal. Neoliberals are NOT opposed to dictatorships. They are opposed to anything other than neoliberal capitalism. They are opposed to authoritarian socialist systems, but they absolutely will also oppose a democracy that they consider to be not capitalist enough. Friedrich Hayek, one of the architects of neoliberalism was very clear on the matter:

At times it is necessary for a country to have, for a time, some form or other of dictatorial power. As you will understand, it is possible for a dictator to govern in a liberal way. And it is also possible for a democracy to govern with a total lack of liberalism. Personally I prefer a liberal dictator to democratic government lacking liberalism.

[–] paraphrand@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There’s no need to attack her appearance. Her actions describe her nature just fine.

[–] phaedrus@piefed.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

I will absolutely attack a narcissist's appearance, that's one of the only things they actually care about

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

I think what you saw was that Trump didn't support her (still doesn't it seems). I recall her coming out hard for Trump when he kidnapped Maduro.

[–] lmmarsano@lemmynsfw.com 0 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Do you literally not remember all the times world leaders have lined up to award & praise Trump to try to get their way? That's just sensible foreign relations by world leaders who understand the type of shallow, transactional idiot Trump is. Without insight about Machado, how does this look any different to you?

[–] phaedrus@piefed.world 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Are my edits not showing up or something? Someone else commented what I had already edited in.

I misremembered a story about Machado, then I linked an article that corrected me. I never said this looked different, just that you can't make this shit up and compared her to literally everybody else.

[–] lmmarsano@lemmynsfw.com -2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I never said this looked different,

Your question

What the fuck happened?

pretty much did unless you're assuming that peaceful pragmatism[^pragmatism] is incompatible with a peace award (in which case, that's daft as hell).

[^pragmatism]: by trading meaningless trinkets to bid one's time with a geopolitical threat (with a 4 year term) & minimize conflicts that you're in no position to win & will hurt your people

[–] phaedrus@piefed.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Again, see my edits. My initial comment was based on something I remembered incorrectly, and then I corrected myself.

[–] lmmarsano@lemmynsfw.com 0 points 2 weeks ago

Your edits address nothing I wrote. That you think they should (when they really do the opposite) indicates poor reading comprehension.

[–] bwhough@fedia.io 5 points 2 weeks ago

Currently dying of cringe.

[–] Crackhappy@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

The Piece President, everyone. Clap. Clap. Why aren't you fucking clapping? BLAM

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

I also don’t like the idea of trump still breathing air.

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

A running dog for a running dog.

[–] santa@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
