I like their music, I just wish they would stick to punk rock and keep their politics to themselves. Always sucks when a good band has to.go woke.
i think the problem here is too many people actually hold this position on the dropkicks
I guess i can kind of see that, especially if you stopped listening to them around 2005 or so. The songs about working class people, drinking, fighting, and the old country would all appeal to the typical right-wing dipshit with their own idea of what solidarity means.
plus people lack media literacy. i've met too many people who think State of Massachusetts is a pump up jam about how great Massachusetts is
Sometimes you have to omit /s for the integrity of the joke and i respect that.
I 100% believe this is a joke that just didn't land with the users here because almost that exact same thing has been repeatedly said by people who didn't know the machine they're supposed to rage at isn't the dishwasher.
It's odd... Despite its userbase being overwhelmingly left and politically aware, when presented with the decision about whether a post is a sincere chud or mocking chuds, Lemmy users assume the former extremely often.

We left the age of irony, when too many people showed a stupidity online, that was impossible to distinguish from a witty remark.
I mean, I get it. We're also overwhelmingly neurodivergent. We've also seen people say this shit for real. We've also seen a ton of folks say "it was just a joke" to defend the indefensible. Let's add to that we don't know who we're talking to and tone doesn't always transfer to text. So a lot of us (me included) will sometimes see someone mocking jackasses and think they're the jackass.
I caught this one because I make this joke A LOT. All the time. It will never not be funny to me. My buddy is writing a song right now that's a pretty thinly veiled indictment of influencer and grind culture (it's about giving up a piece of yourself to make a buck basically, and when you're not willing to do it you don't get to eat). He was bouncing ideas off me and I made that joke.
And when he releases it I will recommend it to everyone by making the exact same joke again. Folk musicians should stick to music and not be so damned woke! Can you believe this?!? Then I'll link the song.
I appreciate that I can tell this was a joke, but I do not appreciate how I am now coughing from how much I was laughing.

Well, you see, the way human communication works is that we use details from our surroundings called "context". A big part of that context is what's called "human expression", which includes "facial expressions" and "hand gestures", which we use to "indicate" that we are joking.
That's the purpose of tone indicators. Sorry, you're wrong, ending a comment with /s does nothing to reduce the effectiveness of the joke.
