/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

Seems to be a recurring theme for me today so I'm just gonna run with it :>

As a former spelunker, this story has been used to scare newbies straight ever since it happened. I assume the same goes for cave rescue folks. Point being: don't over-commit, plan ahead, exercise proper safety, and for crying out loud don't ever pin your arms and hands in a crawl.

I like a lot of things related to rocks: hiking, rock climbing and snowboarding. At one point in time I was thinking about spelunking, but then this story happened...

"To access this part of the cave, we have to crawl for about 40 meters..."

Nope. Nope. Nope nope.

I've been spelunking a few times in Colorado! The longest was about 8 hours underground. It's not for the faint of heart, but if you can handle claustrophobia, it's an amazing experience.

I will add that if you, dear reader, are interested but are unaware of your claustrophobia status, that's okay. Just make sure to be open an honest about that when hooking up with other cavers and/or a local caving club. You'll find that many are compassionate about this kind of thing; it's not unheard of to do a newbie friendly cave with folks, just to see if you can handle it or not. Just don't keep that all to yourself only to have a freakout during an (otherwise) normal trip.

The lower decks. It's a cartoon comedy that is filled with deep cut jokes and poking fun at the various consistency issues of the various TV shows written by people who love trek. It's a love letter in comedy form.

It looks like it could be fun.

I've not seen any Star Trek stuff, maybe a movie like over ten years ago; will I be lost if I start watching this show?

[–] Lydia_K@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If you like a fun cartoon comedy then it's fun without understanding all the deep jokes they are slipping in. But wow when you realize how many there are, I'm a big star trek nerd and there have been some where I've been like "What did that mean?" Only to search the web for it to find some wild behind the scenes story that I never knew about which they are referencing. So if a line seems out of place, it's probably something like that.

That's some lovely dedication to the fans right there 😊

Probably. But sometimes, being lost in space is good.

You can watch it now, then go watch all the other shows and finally come back to watch this one again.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

😅 I'm limited on time a bit though lol, I've got like hundreds of shows on my backlog, want to be careful about adding more...

[–] lath@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

True, watching shows as a demand rather than a want lessens the enjoyment. Do as the mood hits, no pressure.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

😌 I usually say this: I always have time for at least the first episode. 😉

[–] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Some of the jokes will go over your head, some of the cameos will be meaningless, but overall I think the show stands on its own pretty well.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Alright cool, thanks 😊
