"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Honestly disturbing and fascinating at the same time. People will bond with anything, yet some will dehumanize real people that are different. Can understand the temptation of a perfect partner, but this always-yes enabling chat bots are toxic. It would be one thing if these were true AI's in the fully sentient/sapient sense, but this is just self-delusion.

Another reason I hate how the term AI has been co-opted by tech bros, using the term to increase sales, poisoning the true meaning.

I read the article and his issue with women is that they can't be trusted and that their emotions change. This man is going to be completely unable to deal with children. Empathy and compassion and soothing are skills you hone in adult relationships and can use when you're raising kids. There's no way this guy deals with a kids outbursts or problems in a healthy way.

He definitely has lots of issues, but never got help the help he obviously needs. Going to implode on him someday sadly.

It's an amazing future where a tech bro is literally using an episode of Black Mirror as inspiration for their product.

But of course they do, because they dream themselves as the ones in control.

"Hi, we were so inspired by the torment nexus from the book 'Dont Make the Torment Nexus', that we just had to make our own. It includes blue tooth and social media integration."

A common thread with these stories seems to be that the person experienced a deep emotional wound before the AI stepped in.

It may sound obvious to those here, but it important to recognize that they aren't providing any real companionship. They are preying on vulnerable people the way casinos tell you they can solve your money troubles.

I thought anime set some really absurd standards. AI is about to ruin the shit out of a generation's relationship and sexual expectations.

As opposed to partially AI?

One of the other AI users in the article has AI "children". Would that work for the man in the title?

JD Vance wants children with a couch. Can we get a guardian feature for that?
