Archaeology has various goals, which range from understanding culture history to reconstructing past lifeways to documenting and explaining changes in human societies through time.

Just a reminder that Chariots of the Gods was rejected by publishers until one editor took on the job of extensively rewriting it.
And that editor was Wilhelm Utermann, formerly editor of... Völkischer Beobachter, the official newspaper of the Nazi Party. Managing to spread lies that people of colour never achieved anything ("it was aliens!") even decades after his beloved Führer blew his brains out in the bunker.
I have fond memories of staying up late with my mom watching Ancient Aliens and roasting the fuck outta this guy. The memories are good, the man was not. Rest in piss. 🦀
