The US are liars.

Trust nothing they say. Everything they do is frequently part of a trap.

Earnestly prepare for war anyway.

You can dupe Trump. You can't dupe Rubio.

Couple things regarding that:

  1. Apparently Petro is trying to move Trump away from supporting the far right in the country, which has been calling for interventionism and coup. One possibility is that Petro is willing to be buttery with Trump at this moment to consolidate the elections in May. Which could be not that bad a tactic IMO.

  2. However, if this is literally about bowing to the emperor, oh then never forget social democracy is the left wing of fascism. We will fight here against the gringos and their compradors if needed. On the protest Petro called for yesterday just I saw 3 different gringo flags being burned. Several more were burned throughout the country.

  3. And if he does get arrested in the US. I think its game on against any gringo resident or tourist in the country, to which there are a lot of. And against the US military presence in the country.

I guess we will wait and see. But I don't register Petro as someone that suddenly would become a comprador.

Hadn't thought about your first point, but it makes a lot of sense.

Petro's presidency has been marked by compromise and triangulation, so I expect him to give some concessions to be left alone. I wouldn't put it past him if this was another Petro 4d chess move.

This is nothing new tbh, Trump have been aggressive towards Claudia and Lula da Silva, then in person he seems to enjoy talking with them.

During the 80th United Nations General Assembly in September 2025, President Donald Trump and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva had an unexpected encounter that shifted the tone of their previously strained relationship. Despite ongoing tensions regarding U.S. tariffs and legal proceedings against former President Jair Bolsonaro, the interaction was characterized by surprising cordiality. In his speech following a brief backstage encounter, Trump remarked that Lula seemed like a "very nice man," adding, "He liked me, and I liked him". He emphasized that he prefers to do business with people he likes.

Following their brief exchange at the UN in September, Trump and Lula held a 45-minute formal meeting on October 26, 2025, to resolve trade disputes. Trump described Lula as a "very vigorous guy" and a "nice man," stating it was a "great honor" to be with the President of Brazil. "I want to wish the president happy birthday": Trump asked reporters to convey the message to Lula, mentioning they had just had a "great meeting" in Malaysia.

Trump expressed interest in Lula's 580 days in prison and praised his ability to make a political comeback. Trump viewed their shared experiences, both having faced significant legal challenges and imprisonment, as a point of personal connection or empathy.

Also Lula has a very deep gravely voice and Trump's into that sort of masculinity

[–] Redcuban1959@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

Indeed, though Lula's voiced changed over the years due to the fact he had aged and because of his cancer treatment back in 2010.

I'll never get over the fact that entire countries interests consisting of millions of people have their economic well being tied to who one person likes or hates.

picard

Well that's Colombia dealt with as well

[–] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 22 points 2 months ago (1 children)

We will see to what extent the ring kissing will go. Petro has been good at navigating reaction before, but idk.

Oh that's not what I meant, I meant he's going to share a cell with Maduro

A good friend will bail you out of jail. A true friend will be sitting next to you saying, 'America Delenda Est.'

[–] TrustedFeline@hexbear.net 15 points 2 months ago

Honestly, if Maduro gets in the same room as trump, he might turn him into a chavista

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

or did he just hand Trump the keys and ask him not to scratch the country's new paint job

[–] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago

That could be, too.
