Blame the republicans.

Dems introduced articles of impeachment in April and once again in December. But the Dems don’t have the majority in the congress, and they were tabled by the GOP.

Please recall Democrats had FOUR YEARS to prepare for another Trump campaign, including two years of majority.

The filibuster/cloture can be ignored by them at will with a simple majority vote.

The senate doesn't "need" a two thirds majority. It makes bills "exceptions" to that majority vote with regularity, hundreds of exceptions; it's a senate rule and not law.

The senate could have impeached and convicted him and barred him from holding office for his entire life. That's their job. they are the only ones who can do it.

I don't know why you think this, but the Constitution explicitly requires a 2/3 majority of the Senate to vote for conviction.

Article I, section 3, clause 6:

The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.

Because cloture rules (which can be amended with majority vote whenever they want and ignored) also applies to conviction for some reason (according to .gov website). A mistake, as admitted by me immediately. That's why I thought that.

Yeah really, they’ve successfully impeached him twice but without more control in Congress, they can’t remove him.

Hate it? I know. But all we can do is go donate to or work for a congressional candidate’s campaign somewhere that could help tip the scales.

The Democrats aren't in power in the House and literally CAN'T impeach him even if they wanted to.

It's down to Mike Johnson and the Republicans to run an impeachment.

Then, even if they did, it's off to the Senate which is ALSO controlled by Republicans, in order to convict and remove him.

The Democrats aren't in any way, shape, or form in control of the process at this point.

Fuck man, Trump was impeached twice. Is it 'third time's the charm'? Or have you forgotten what removal takes? Or, for that matter, what the House currently looks like?

I'd like to see Dems introduce impeachment proceedings over this, but even if they do, it's not going to make much of a difference, other than changing the beat of some online drums from "DEMS SHOULD DO IT EVEN IF IT'S JUST SENDING A MESSAGE OF DISAPPROVAL" to "I CAN'T BELIEVE DEMS ARE WASTING TIME ON SOMETHING THEY KNOW WON'T MAKE A DIFFERENCE"

Dems have already done it twice in his second term, but no one remembers because Trump’s weekly crazy shit is crazier than impeachment, and because the press doesn’t spent time covering something that the GOP can insta-block because they’re the majority.

And on the record, the dems have already tried to impeach him several times now. It’s keeps getting struck down.

Last week there was an anti-trans discriminatory bill that passed the house with 100% Republican support and 1% Democratic support courtesy of like 2 Texan democrats.

Headline? "DEMOCRATS HATE TRANS PEOPLE"

Comments? "This is why I don't vote, blah blah"

Yeah. That perfectly summarizes the lack of nuance in so many people here. They are so quick to outrage themselves about everything- that they don’t take the time to even understand what it even is they’re being outraged about.

It’s just-

Wait, am I reading that democrats voted on this?! Well then It must have been ALL THE DEMOCRATS!!!

And then we end up with hundreds of comment threads of theses clowns crawling over once another to see who can make the most anger-inducing claim.

Ifs like they want to be angry! And then you try and inject a little grey-area to their black and white ideology, they lose their shit.

If politics worked for the citizens there would be no issues at all but it has become a useless "stinkhole" and any fruitful gains we have fought for over the years have been almost instantly lost. One step forward, 5 steps back. Not a dem or rep issue but money/power/broken system global issue.
