Mamdani has expressed support for the Jewish population of NYC.
The only thing he did here that Israel is criticizing him for, is reaffirming the distinction between Jewish identity and the state of Israel. The definition he scrapped conflated the two; it was a bad-faith definition aimed at obfuscation.
It's entirely possible to validly criticize the actions of a nation's government without promoting hatred of its people; the fact of Israel being an ethnostate doesn't change that.
It's also harmful to conflate Jewish identity with Israeli politics, because there are many Jewish people who don't support the actions of the far-right, ultra-orthodox government of the state of Israel. Conflating them results in the dispersal of blame for Israel's actions across all Jewish people everywhere, and that is anti-semitic.
Also, Arabic is a semitic language, so doesn't that make islamophobia a form of anti-semitism? That would mean Benjamin Netanyahu is the biggest anti-semite alive today. Just food for thought...

It would if most Muslims were native Arabic speakers. They aren't, though. The biggest Muslim populations are in Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nigeria and Iran. Of those, only Iran has any Arab people at all, and they're a small minority.
That's true, and I was hoping everyone would conveniently ignore that fact. But most of the Muslims hated by western bigots are from Arab-majority nations, and Benjamin Netanyahu certainly hates enough Arab people to be called anti-semitic nonetheless.

Probably half of my social circle are practicing Jews or come from Jewish families. Not only do none of them support Israel, but most of them are vastly more ferocious in their criticism than I am.

We attend a Passover seder every year where the host mother dedicates the ceremony to the people of Palestine, that they may one day be set free of their bondage and suffering as were the Jews in Egypt.
Easily 80% of the Jewish people we know are fiercely anti-zionist and horrified by the Israeli government.

From what I've read the new mayor has withdrawn all orders from the previous mayor following his criminal indictment on the grounds that they may be self serving to the previous mayor and/or made as political favors intended to avoid prosecution.
I've also read the new mayor is reviewing each to see which are worth reimplenting in part or in whole.
Whether or not this was a wise choice is up for debate, but it is no surprise that those affected were ready to pounce in order to score political points. Someone associated with the new mayor must have seen this coming for this particular religiously charged topic, and must have known the NY press would not be forgiving.
I think this is a non event.
Mamdani has been publicly stating his opposition to the Israeli occupation for years. Israel's government has been accusing him falsely of antisemitism since he became known. And the NY press has tried to rattle him over it since Israel began attempting to smear him, with no effect.
This is like holding a press conference to announce that the Berlin Wall has fallen. Yes. That was the state of affairs yesterday and the day before, and presumably will remain so tomorrow.
This isn't something anyone needs to or will react to.
