Wait there's profile pictures? I just see usernames in the comment threads in Lemmy and that seems fine to me

I'm using Voyager, so not sure if that is the problem? As I too, just see user names
There are profile pictures?
Yep, do you see mine?
No.
No, I don't.
Positive
I do. But its because I'm on the browser and i usually use an app on my phone. I added a picture. So this comment is to see if it works.
Yep it does!
Is that from a picrew π«΅
Yep!
Why would I?
Why would I want to be recognizable?
I use link/content aggregators as my social media of choice, because I am interested in content and communities.
I don't care about curating some kind of online persona or interacting with any. This isn't Instagram.
and a way to be recognizable more easily.
I do not desire that.
Wait, you guys are setting profile pics?
I simply don't care enough.
I use an app that doesn't show profile pictures by default.
I apply a user tag to anyone I want to recognize.
Because, I consider profile pictures to be a way to be more visually appaling, and a way to be recognizable more easily (thing that I do not want).
Why do you have a profile picture?
Because I would have to go do that.
I'm not even sure being recognised is a plus.
I speak with my words. Sometimes my actions. Pics also carry a shit ton of information I don't want them to.
Why doΒ YOU need a profile picture
My disinterest in pleasing my fellow Internetians, intersects with my not caring enough to figure out how, or bother to follow through.
Bottom line: Why should I? What's in it for me?
Whoa! Get out of my head!
You can have a profile picture?!?
I don't care enough to set one
I work 100% remotely, and my day job doesn't even have profile pics. When we meet, it's a dozen cartoon images or memes as faces. No cams, no pics.
The side gig I've had for 20 years has never had a pic. These people wouldn't recognize me if I walked in the office one day.
Why should I? We don't see a value.
Because it's about the discussion and exchange of information & ideas, not about individuals.
You can set profile pictures on Lemmy?
Eup, In your profile settings
As others have said, I use a client that doesn't display them, so it never dawned on me. And in general, profile pics have never been a big deal for me. So if the app or site doesn't make me do it as part of the account set up, my profile pic just stays as the default.
I like not seeing people's pictures in discussions.
I feel like I get a diverse opinion from people of all age, race, and other background. And we are united on our common interests in the topic without an implicit bias.
It might have shortcomings, and my case is for not having your real picture in your profile.
I have one only because it's the one I use everywhere.
I don't see anyone else's though, the app I use doesn't show them mostly.
Many such cases of apps not showing profile pictures. π
They're shown on posts. So on this post I see your profile picture all teeny tiny next to the title. None of the comments do though.
I do have a profile picture, but I don't think it's crucial. Other link aggregators often don't have profile pictures so if you're used to those, you may not think to set one. In any case I've never thought anyone's profile picture on here was particularly consequential to me.
I have been meaning to for over a year, Im just too ~~lazy~~ busy to get around to it.
Sure, let's make the regime's work easier
Mine is even animated.
I can't see it π₯Ίπ
Probably your clientβs fault.
On social media where it's only anons from all around the internet, I put a silly picture like here.
But on social media where my friends or my family are, I won't put my face because hell no, and I won't put something silly either because it's hard enough to look normal.
I rarely use thoses social media so I'm fine without a profile picture at all.
