Important note: This doesn't suddenly mean that Chick-Fil-A and the people who own it are suddenly good guys now.

[–] TheRealKuni@piefed.social 88 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

I mean, how many companies are maintaining their DEI programs these days?

I’m not gonna say Chick-fil-A are perfect angels, but the article is about a guy who is upset because one of the locations in Utah celebrated a gay marriage and corporate backed them up. That’s a very different Chick-fil-A than in 2012.

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 42 minutes ago

also the guy who is upset is literally linked to at least three guys (one of whom was JOSH DUGGAR) who sexually assaulted children.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 43 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

That happened?! I’m frankly stunned.

Is it possible for Chic-fil-a to ever redeem itself in your eyes?

If they fired everyone involved with every controversy and started donating every cent of profit to LGBT charity groups, would you say they were a good company, or is it once tainted always tainted.

Chic-fil-a has made a lot of changes in the past decade and a half, and I'm of the opinion that, if no amount of self reflection and change can ever make us reconsider our condemnation, then there's no reason for anything to try and change, as it won't stop the hate.

Not that Chic-fil-a is perfect, but I would argue they are now as good or better than any other fast food chain we're not actively hating on. They actually pay their employees more than minimum wage and give them one guaranteed weekend day off if nothing else.

So why continue to put them down now that it's "mission accomplished?" If the goal was for them to change, and they have, it seems that we should bring them back into the fold, no?

For me it would either take a reversal of all the bullshit deregulation of campaign finance laws, or for all the bigots in the Cathy family to be ousted entirely.

I honestly haven't been following them.

Did they ever admit fault? That's big for me. An explicit "we were wrong"

That's the big thing for me. To be forgiven, you must first apologize. Then you must make amends.

And yes, for some harms, there are no amends great enough.

I think redemption is possible, but I'm skeptical. Will definitely look into this more.

A very important point that we should all remember. It's critical to continue a no-tolerance policy of intolerance, but to accept those who want to change.

I'm not running to Chick-fil-A anytime soon but the point remains.

the bar for capitalists pigs is incredibly low...but to give credit where it's do, they atleast pay a halfway decent wage, take basic measures to keep employees safe/healthy (shade/hested spaces in winter, for drive through people), are relatively good in insuring QC in their supply chain, and actually have a pretty generous franchise setup.

admittedly these are things that the overwhelming majority of the West just...insures via basic government regulation, but they sure could be a hell of a lot worse.

alls i'm saying is when/if the Revolution happens, their CEO isnt even in the top 50-100 people that need to get got.

Sometimes a jackal will eat another jackal. Do not pet any jackals.

[–] RobotToaster@mander.xyz 15 points 5 hours ago

But jackals are cute. 😭

[–] FerretyFever0@fedia.io 4 points 6 hours ago

This is true. They are not "the face of the resistance", or whatever Bluesky dems are saying nowadays.

The enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy. No more, no less.

“Following the teachings of Jesus goes agains the teachings of Jesus”

Dude is so far up his own ass he hasn’t seen daylight in years

All of this started early last month when MAGA went apeshit because a Utah Chick-fil-A location posted a celebration of a gay couple’s wedding.

Chick-fil-A’s corporate office responded to the backlash with a formal statement emphasizing the company’s commitment to DEI.

Perkins suggests to Newsmax that Chick-fil-A has gone “woke” now that its founder is dead. But S. Truett Cathy died in 2014 at age 93.

How the fuck is respecting people's backgrounds during hiring and employment in contrast to the Christian faith?

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 9 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Because those people never made it past the Old Testament. I was forced to attend a Southern Baptist Church during highschool, and the preacher never once had a sermon based on the New Testament.

But they really hate it when you suggest they join a synagogue.

[–] borf@lemmynsfw.com 9 points 6 hours ago

*employment, unless you are taking "my pleasure" very literally

[–] RobotToaster@mander.xyz 8 points 5 hours ago

How the turns table.

Hell the guy that owns Menards is another disgusting human being who has been associated with Trump for years. Feel like not many people are aware of that.

[–] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 6 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Weird, I’ve been boycotting Chick-Fil-A for something like 15 years. I legitimately don’t recall how long I’ve been boycotting them. Fuck Chick-Fil-A.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 7 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (2 children)

Fuck them for changing corporate policy to what you want it to be?

They deserved hate for their anti-lgbt policies, but if they scrapped that there's no reason for hate anymore.

[–] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 2 points 51 minutes ago

Regardless of what corporate does, Dan Cathy is still the chairman. Chick Fil A is what provides his income. He uses that income to fund bullshit Christian Nationalist shit still. I'd rather not be part of the reason he has the funds to do so.

[–] morphballganon@lemmy.world 1 points 41 minutes ago

You can still hate someone who eventually, under great pressure, finally decided to stop hurting people after having a history of hurting people when they should have known better.

[–] RymrgandsDaughter@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago

hmm I say we double boycott it

[–] raynethackery@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Somebody really needs to do a deep dive into this guy's background. There has to be a skeleton, scandal or grift buried there somewhere.

[–] ScrambledEggs@lazysoci.al 2 points 4 hours ago

Whoever looks to a fastfood company for moral guidance needs to reevaluate their lives.

Don't support hateful groups. Don't support any group in the company's name. Just shut up and serve food.
