Enjoying some of tone212's excellent brownies for elevenses. Life is good.

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

elevenses

Iโ€™m now picturing the orphans doing the thing where the dwarves descend on Bilboโ€™s larder.

Come to think of it the 25th is when the LOTR party departed from Rivendell. Maybe next year someone should bring lembas

[โ€“] TheWitchofThornbury2@aussie.zone 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

We'd have to have a chat with Galadriel about supply of leaves though. Could be administratively complex, given that she's overseas rn.

EDIT: come to think of it, tone212's brownies are a pretty fair imitation imo.

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

So one small bite is enough to fill the stomach of a grown man

[โ€“] TheWitchofThornbury2@aussie.zone 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

And chocolately too - which lembas wasn't which was a missed opportunity I reckon.

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Did they have chocolate in Middle Earth? They had potatoes which implies the equivalent of South America so maybe but itโ€™s never specifically mentioned.

[โ€“] TheWitchofThornbury2@aussie.zone 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Spuds are a solanum species, which is not specific to south america. eg belladonna. So this hypothesis maybe falls over. Ditto tomatoes and chillies - also solanum species. Curcurbits like pumpkins etc are also not specific as gourds are worldwide (except for antarctica). My theory is accelerated selection pressure from elves etc. for edible species. Plus a bit of magic. I mean, do we know that what the LOTR universe calls a potato is the same as ours? We don't.

Reckon I will have a beer and fire up a video game

[โ€“] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 8 points 3 days ago

Managed to get the Minipeelers to agree to do an early shopping centre trip tomorrow. If we're going to do big busy places I prefer to head out early. They're champing at the bit to spend their Christmas money ๐Ÿ˜†Went to one of the local strip shopping places to grab a little grocery and it's so quiet, many shops closed.

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 8 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Dog has been walked, lawn has been mowed. There are leftovers in the fridge ready to go for dinner. I think it might be video game time.

I always thought of leftovers as the rejects. The runners up that didn't make it into the first meal. The 2s. The losers.

Anyway enjoy your meal.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 points 3 days ago

no such thing as left overs

just like restaurants cook large quantities and give many servings I too make mass quantities and keep some for other days

I always thought left overs was was food left on plates, not pots

It kind of blows my mind how people meet partners on dating apps. What do you mean you go from complete strangers, to selling yourself to each other from photos and prompts, to lovers? I guess it's kind of like approaching someone at a bar more or less, but a 2D version and no alcohol.

People in my life keep telling me to download the apps, giving me the line, "They're good for neurodivergent people."

AhhHhhhhHhhhhh! Excuse me?!

Fuck the apps. Admittedly that's from a male perspective. Real life works best for me because I don't waste my time with people that don't have the right vibe.

Plus, the apps thing is so impersonal. Half the fun of meeting someone is that first convo in person. Sometimes it's easier to get a clear picture of someone when they don't have unlimited time to formulate a response lol

I've known my new gf of a few months for 27 years. All of my exs I was friends with to some extent before we had a go at it.

[โ€“] LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[โ€“] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The new gf, bumped into each other at a wake, drank, cuddled.

The exs, we liked the same stuff and had been hanging out doing that stuff for a while so had plenty of time to get to know each other without the "dating" hurdles.

Cool! The meeting at a wake part though, but it had to happen somehow

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 3 days ago

"So what did youse guys do?"

[โ€“] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Mmm. I donโ€™t think they are good for neurodivergent people. From what I can see thereโ€™s lots of flaky, confusing, and even bad behaviour on the apps.

Everywhere really, but especially with the expectation for a fast pace which could lead to entangling with someone you donโ€™t know very well. It probably is safer to get to know people first.

NSFWAlso a lot of people on apps may be specifically looking for casual sex or situationships while not being honest and upfront about it.

Yapping about pressure

The people in your life mean well and may want you settled down, but consider for yourself whether thatโ€™s something you want or are ready to pursue at this point. Whether it feels good for you or leaves a feeling of doubt in your stomach.

Thereโ€™s this rush to try and find a partner in your twenties and it can be very lonely or even excluded if youโ€™re not dating. The subtle icing out of single women and the social pressure to partner up is real, and itโ€™s easy to feel lost or behind.

But you donโ€™t have to move that fast. And there are people out there that can really derail your progress in life. Maybe you might want to take some time for yourself, build up your career and emergency savings, and maybe find some trustworthy girlfriends to have your back if possible. This world can be brutal for neurodivergent women.

Just my 2 cents. Because you mention people actively trying to set you up and urging you to use apps and I wanted to say you donโ€™t have to do anything youโ€™re not 100% on board with. Thereโ€™s no rush. ๐Ÿ–ค

yes! thank you! I think they meant it in the sense that online communication can be easier for ND folk, but you eventually have to meet in person and also what you said about not being able to see red flags. I was definitely in that spot talking to people online as a youngin and that wasn't even through dating apps!

society is excellent at putting this pressure, especially coming from a family being one of the younger cousins, with all the others having felt that "pressure" to "find someone". I think people comment about things like this because they were once insecure about it! I 100% want to meet new people, but not in a dating context. I'm doing that anyway just by interacting with people in various settings :)

Slow day of rest. Made GF bread for ham sandwiches. Did a couple loads of washing. Went for a walk and read most of a book with the cricket in the background. Awesome.

Satisfying and sad at the same time. Leftovers are always a good thing.

slow and steady pace of work, everything will be done ๐Ÿ™‚

[โ€“] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Had a bad dream that I was inefficient at an airport. Didn't have my passport ready, my backpack was a mess, held up lines etc

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 6 points 3 days ago

Not a bad dream, that's psychic damage ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Melbcat is kinda retching/coughing. Not sure if hairballs or asthma. Iโ€™ve given her the puffer, an anti nausea pill, and have her carrier ready to go if needed.

Edit: She seems ok now and had brekkie

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

grand marnier trifle is being made, a new loaf of panettone, some herb dinner rolls, and the turkey breast and chicken maryland is defrosting. The trifle will be as dairy free as possible, I was so sick yesterday morning from the allergy. ๐Ÿ˜–housework being done

and I picked up free two solid nice side/bed tables that the young seagoons can have if they want

Missing my old outdoorsy hobbies ๐Ÿซฉ

It would be cool to try and forage fruit to make jam, pies or try to brew some fruit wine (assuming enough fruit can be found for any of it).

Unfortunately Iโ€™m not physically up to it, still struggling to eat and canโ€™t really drink alcohol, and donโ€™t want to be going about in this area.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 3 days ago

so many hugs

then bring the outdoors to you ๐Ÿ™‚ Bird feeders, a nice garden, pets and such. Try astronomy, cloud watching etc etc. The world is all around us.

The house smells like the pillsbury doughboy's taint rn, i'm not gonna lie. But fuck me that name is not a misdirection

[โ€“] Catfish@aussie.zone 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Sounds like fantastic fun. I love the crazed lava lamp stage. I'd put something on but don't have a bottle stash since we moved.

[โ€“] Taleya@aussie.zone 4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Given we're in the silly season, i reckon if you put a wash on now you'd have plenty of bottles by the time it comes to distill :P
