The spaces between the words is not efficient.

I mean, thisis pretty much the same for all languages...

Fivehundredfiftyfivethousandfivehundredandfiftyfive is not really any easier

[–] PapaStevesy@lemmy.world 29 points 3 days ago (3 children)

No, but:

Five hundred fifty-five thousand five hundred and fifty-five

is waaaaaay easier than

Fivehundredfiftyfivethousandfivehundredandfiftyfive

[–] I_Clean_Here@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You use numbers instead of the fucking words

[–] PapaStevesy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Those are numbers, my friend. You mean numerals, but those aren't very helpful in conversation if you can't say them. This is a post about learning a language, not arithmetic.

The Finnish equivalent would be viisisataaviisikymmentäviisituhattaviisisataaviisikymmentäviisi i think

It's even worse cause some of the numbers within the number are conjugated in the partitive case and whenever you want to conjugate the number into one of Finnish's 15 cases you have to apply it onto every number, so that number conjugated in the inessive case (meaning in something) is viidessäsadessaviidessäkymmenessäviidessätuhannessaviidessäsadessaviidessäkymmenessäviidessä i think

As someone learning German, I was able to figure this out pretty quickly since there is a pattern. But I still forget what Warum means every time I see it

The word just isn't sticking with me, I dunno why. If I knew I would fix it and learn it better.

[–] Phegan@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago
