I had a coworker who showed me his one year and it said he was in the top 0.1% of Eminem listeners.

I think of that a lot

[–] GoodGuyWithACat@hexbear.net 34 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

[–] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 1 points 1 week ago

I feel like the amount of minutes to be top of eminem might be higher lol but props to you

Even the LIDL store application has a rewind now.

They're doing this to boost consumption. It's to condition you to care about your score and want to up your score next year, to compete with your friends and family to see who has the highest score.

Just like how on Hexbear you're being conditioned to post the type of stuff that repeatedly gets you more comments/upbears. When is the Annual hexbear rewind coming?

I’d honestly be fine with removing upvotes on Hexbear altogether. Too many people just have the mindset of more upvotes = correct anyway.

[–] RedSturgeon@hexbear.net 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm not sure if just removing the button solves the issue, people who depend on it would just go somewhere else and then you lose someone who potentially could have been deprogrammed.

Like I can see how removing downvotes is a good idea and it's already done here, because the last thing we need is to encourage dogpiling, but if we can educate people to use the upbear for a force for good it could serve a positive impact.

It means it will sometimes serve popular interests rather than socialist interests, but I don't think there's any easy solution, only education.

deep-nesting we would never

Lemmy unironically has a frontend for that. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to set one up for Hexbear

Yeah it would need to be updated for 1.0 I think. You can use the newest comment sort to replicate the way a phpbb sorts posts.

[–] LeylaLove@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

At first I thought this was a reference to PPB

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

PHPPBB

the extra P is for

PPBB

Ratio /JK

But how would the algorithm work without upvotes?

[–] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

You can turn votes and scores off in your settings. I like them because I enjoy how they function for sorting stuff.

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 19 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

This is why I'm actually the best poster, because I actively recoil at receiving upbears

[–] IncensedCedar@hexbear.net 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

(laughing diabolically as I go through your profile upbearing every one of your posts)

[–] lib1@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago

If I wrote a script to run a Hexbear rewind would anyone use it?

[–] Salah@hexbear.net 34 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Tech companies have been doing this for decades. Snapchat does it with the map that tracks wherever you and your friends are, google maps lets you look into your history to see which places and streets you’ve traveled.

[–] blunder@hexbear.net 5 points 2 weeks ago

I turned my tracking off! They can never find me now! doggirl-smart

[–] Owl@hexbear.net 21 points 2 weeks ago

"What have I listened to the most" is something that any pre-streaming music player would give you for free, any time you want it, instead of one a year when Spotify wants you to.

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 20 points 2 weeks ago

An intern had the idea, implemented it and never even got a real position at Spotify.

[–] BobDole@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
