Damn, haven't heard anyone mention Tibet in a long time. What's the Dalai Lama up to these days

I think one of the biggest communication issues between people in China and people in the west is that people in the west are just so, so, so fucking ignorant. Like, your average Chinese person probably can't even conceive of how little your average westerner knows about Chinese history. Most of us don't even know Hong Kong was occupied by the British for fuck's sake.

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 41 points 3 weeks ago

That was the best part about the Xiaohongshu migration, watching all the Americans realizing in real time just how wrong their conception of China was

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 27 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure they know, they just think the occupation was good

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 34 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I've met a lot of people who think "China" "conquered" Hong Kong from the "Hong Kongers" Not just kids either, people literally old enough to remember Hong Kong changing hands in 1999.

But that's also another problem, so many people in the west will have a vague understanding of history, but will just think western imperialism is a good thing and the people fighting against it were always in the wrong.

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 34 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Many Westerners don't even think China is a legitimate sovereign country that deserves respect. They think le seesepee is a basically a gang of murderous thugs that unlawfully stole China from its rightful rulers and that are constantly working overtime to oppress their citizens, pollute the environment and undermine Western democracies

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 24 points 3 weeks ago

Exactly! How do you even start a conversation with someone who thinks your country is run by villains from Marvel movies who are just pointlessly evil for no reason.

Last I heard the Dalai Lama was asking a young boy to suck on his tongue.

I wish I was making that up.

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 30 points 3 weeks ago

Going to be one of the [redacted] names on the Epstein flight list for sure.

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 28 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh no, I remember that too

Even pulled the whole "It's a joke! You just don't get it!" Card

r/deprogram users defended it on religious angle, fortunately mod did not agreed with it.

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

r/deprogram users defended it on religious angle

Definitely not racist redditors: "no you don't understand, asking children to suck on your tongue is just part of Buddhism".

They defended all religions, even had pope polishing sessions. Guess it comes with what no materialism does to mfers.

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 18 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Oh yeah, I know and I assume that's largely why he hasn't been in the media being portrayed as the pope of Buddhism anymore. Also he has to be super old by now and probably just not in the shape to do big media tours around the world

China has 5x the population of the US and yet it has a smaller prison population. Not by %, they have less absolute total prisoners despite having 5x the population size, and these people call it an authoritarian regime...

Absolutely nobody in the west can talk about "supporting a regime" if they support the US. China has a 90% home ownership rate, significantly lower homeless rate. Better literacy rates. Better education rates. Less people live in poverty.

Anyone taking their time to attack China that does not attack the US equally or even more so is propagandised and not looking at things objectively.

All of the people saying this shit wave the US flag the hardest. They can't even offload this shit onto Trump or recent administration, it's always been there, they've always supported it.

[–] FortifiedAttack@hexbear.net 21 points 3 weeks ago

and these people call it an authoritarian regime...

The tiresome thing is that everything you said will be dismissed as a lie. That's how they can keep their worldview going indefinitely.

[–] Lowleekun@hexbear.net 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That might be true for america-libs. I have euro-libs as friends and right now everyone despises the ever living fuck out of the U.S. While China still faces our propaganda-machine, if I say "I think amerikkka is worse than China" I would not be looked at like a weirdo.

Up until a Democrat becomes president again.

[–] Lowleekun@hexbear.net 9 points 3 weeks ago

That's I guess true for many as our propaganda really tries to crawl up their asses. But first I am doubtful I have to see a Demonrat as president again and second I honestly believe that the U.S. took more lasting damage than it's population thinks. We don't have patriotism of that kind.

Everyone here in europe is at the point now where they'll acknowledge that it's a majority of the american people, not just Trump.

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 39 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Acknowledges Hong Kong is part of China.

This is progress, for a lib.

[–] Soot@hexbear.net 5 points 3 weeks ago

And Tibet. They sort of accidentally assumed a bunch of stuff they're not supposed to

[–] FuckyWucky@hexbear.net 28 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

I love how they 'forget' that EU basically did a smaller version of 1990s Russian shock therapy to Greece.

Edit : left axis on the graph is billions, not millions

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 26 points 3 weeks ago

But that's ok because they blamed Greece for it.

[–] towhee@hexbear.net 20 points 3 weeks ago

not giving a damn about the environment

The rest of them are just western brainworm ideology but this one is actually funny in how out of touch it is with reality

[–] Lowleekun@hexbear.net 18 points 3 weeks ago

Reddit is a cancer ass misrepresentation of any group. If I could only judge people through reddit I would cheer for the third world war to happen soon. It really brings out the worst and all the while pretends to be normal through appeasement to the mainstream. With shit like 4chan people at least knew that it is a playground for the very "weird".

[–] bloubz@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 3 weeks ago

But... Taiwan is not a sovereign nation. They are Chinese, just under the Republic of China state

I don't think people in Hong Kong are a different people, are they?

[–] WokePalpatine@hexbear.net 8 points 3 weeks ago

Was looking up a way to get rid of the page numbers showing up in Moon Reader+ last night and found a Reddit thread and the screenshot they had of Moon Reader was of course some LA Time journalist propaganda book about DPRK. And a bunch of people in the comments were asking what the book was. Every time.

China is OPPRESSING 3 PEOPLE ?!?!?! THAT IS IT. FUCK CHINA. FUCK CCP. FUCK MAO. FUCK DENG. FUCK XI

[–] fort_burp@feddit.nl 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Hobbies? What's the context here?

Eurolibs just gave Ukraine $100B to burn so the only hobby they're getting is logrolling. (Logrolling is the cheapest hobby I can think of)

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 5 points 3 weeks ago

This is in reference to the EU and some individual member states making it much more expensive and annoying to order from places like Temu and AliExpress

china has no rightful claim to the republic of china! america does!

[–] Pergoss@hexbear.net 7 points 3 weeks ago

Sucking tongues, probably
