Everything about the vehicle screams "Collisions are fatal at anything faster than walking speed".

[–] Sergio@piefed.social 21 points 4 months ago

It's like a bumper car with no bumpers.

[–] 69420@lemmy.world 12 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It's just begging to tip over.

[–] Sludgehammer@lemmy.world 14 points 4 months ago (1 children)

The seat is what really bugs me, it looks like hitting a pothole could easily jostle you enough to make you fall out.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 months ago

Yeah, I wonder if it has any suspension at all. Doesn’t look like there’s much ground clearance to allow it from this angle.

So just like every modern vehicle?

Or did you only mean the passengers and not pedestrians?

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 39 points 4 months ago (1 children)

45 mph in that thing sounds terrifying.

And I'm a motorcycle rider.

[–] Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

The closer you are to the ground, the faster it feels like you're moving. 45 in that thing probably feels like 80 in a regular car.

I have a '79 Corvette. It's very close to the ground.

I've occasionally described driving fast in it as "visceral."

Well... Now I'm upset that we aren't all doodling around in our doodlebugs.

In real units that's:

  • 7 kW
  • 72 km/h
  • 3,36 L per 100 km
[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 14 points 4 months ago (1 children)

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 9 points 4 months ago

And an extra wheel.

10 hitpoints seem kinda high for that car. I would expect more like 5

5 is when the driver is ejected.

It's got 2 health bars

[–] AwesomeLowlander@sh.itjust.works 10 points 4 months ago (1 children)

How much mileage will it get once my lard ass doubles its weight, though?

[–] sramder@lemmy.world 12 points 4 months ago

Depends on if you’re on a hill?

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Sharing its name with a somewhat more infamous motorised vehicle of the time

The V-2 missile was nicknamed the Doodlebug.

Rope doors

Top speed 45 mph

It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand.

All it costs is your dignity.

We tried again in the 70s with this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HM_Vehicles_Free-way

It did 100mpg at 40mph with 12hp. Used a snow mobile drive and similar frame.

76 citicar, banned because it distracted too many women.

There were more than a few microcars over the years, though of course most of them outside the US. They often look quite fun, browsing through image search is a nice pastime.

Katy Perry is a lot older than I thought she was.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 3 points 4 months ago

Looks like a bumper car.

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 2 points 4 months ago

This is the kind of car I'd want to drive.
