Fine, video conference it is.

Hey Europeans, spread the word. Not only do they want all that info, but if you manage to pass the Esta check and make it to the US, the boarder patrol can reject you for any reason they feel like. They don't just send you back home either, you get detained by a government that has shown flagrant disregarding of human rights. Good luck in one of the gulags we have here that people are dying in on a daily basis. Oh, ya, they are also using torture techniques from Gitmo. You might be better off taking a holiday to North Korea. Maybe the destruction of the tourism industry will cause an introspection of the "both sides" people to wake up and fight against this destruction of America. Who am I kidding, I still see idiots supporting Trump, even after their lives are ruined by his insane policies.

I guess I'll just keep avoiding this shithole, thanks for the reminder

[–] slaacaa@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago

Yeah, why would anybody go there? Go be a tourist and spend your money in a country that actually welcomes you

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Would be funny if NORAD's Santa tracker says Santa was denied entry into the Untied States. Except I wouldn't want to upset the children.

[–] axexrx@lemmy.world 8 points 21 hours ago

Wasn't trump just saying xmas gifts for young children might be something people need sacrifice for the economy? They should totally blame ice for stopping santa

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 11 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Tbh I kinda do want to upset the children. Piss them off and make them ask questions to their shitty-ass parents. Make the families uncomfortable. Maybe we'll teach some kids that their parents are to blame for the state of the world.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 4 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Would be interesting to see the Trump administration's reaction if a teacher got in trouble for telling kids that Santa's not allowed to enter the country this year

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Merry Christmas! Santa was arrested at the border and ICE has shot four of his eight reindeer. Christmas is canceled this year.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 5 points 19 hours ago

I'd watch that Christmas movie.

There's hints of it all the way back in Elf with the Central Park cops at the end.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 4 points 19 hours ago

Someone should make a song about it. Reminds me of Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer

[–] Sizing2673@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

Yeah we need a generation after us to question and research and get politically involved

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 4 points 19 hours ago

You know, you just created the best holiday hacker gift ever right? Anonymous, you guys still around?

Not even that long ago I dreamt of travelling to the US and see grand canyon and other natural wonders, drive on road 66 or atleast get a feeling of how the idealistic image of USA painted my movies/music/etc actually is, maybe visit burning man and so on. Now the plan is to stay the fuck out of there unless things change drastically.

Gladly there's a crapload of other places to visit, Kyiv is on my bucket list once things calm down there.

[–] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 2 points 8 hours ago

get a feeling of how the idealistic image of USA painted my movies/music/etc

It was all idealism in the end, sorry to ruin the fantasy.

[–] friend_of_satan@lemmy.world 5 points 21 hours ago

It's time to watch Gattaca again.

In a future society in the era of indefinite eugenics, humans are set on a life course depending on their DNA.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It won't happen, but I wish the next administration would commit to destroying all of this data

[–] Rcklsabndn@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 hours ago

Kind of like how homeland security went away after we won the war on terror? /S

[–] FinalRemix@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Yeah, that's the other fucked thing about all this. None of this damage or surveillance will be rolled back by anyone else. It's in place, guess we'll continue to use it.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Meanwhile, for US citizens, if you submit to facial recognition, you can literally walk in you the country without showing anyone at all a passport.

Which means they already have every single bit of that data on every American.

[–] kungen@feddit.nu 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And/or they don't want as much resistance. "It's fine to save all this info on non-Americans". The road to fascism often creeps slowly.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 6 points 1 day ago

That's the split.

It's only visible to "them ferners what ain't shouldn't be here!" So the Libertarian nuts and conspiracy crackpots that scream about Obama still don't see the surveillance state happening to them because they're already distracted.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

My plans have not changed. I will continue to avoid the Untied States

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why, checking the skin color with their phone wasn’t enough for them?

[–] throws_lemy@lemmy.nz -3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

DNA testing is important to ensure you are not carrying any diseases into the US soil.

[–] tla@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Intelligence, for example.

The site linked is toxic i.e., filled up the ass with ads that make it impossible to navigate.

[–] thejml@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

To be fair, that perfectly describes the US as well.

[–] Sludge@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

This is correct.
