I am happy to see 40K finally get the Total War treatment, but fuck man, no way is my PC gonna run that and I am not in a position to be getting a new one. Future goals I guess.

I transitioned to GeForce Now for extremely graphically demanding games. Games like Total War do very well on the cloud.

I. Am. Hyped!

I liked TW: Warhammer even though the setting isn’t my jam, but it’s well made and fun. WH40K has always been my thing and I’m super keen to see how they handle bringing it to the Total War playstyle and hoping it’s really good.

I wouldn't call it well made. Had a lot of quality issues and bugs that were not fixed.

With Medieval 3 announced recently as well, I wonder which one we are getting first.

This will also be quite a bit different from the previous entries with the board being a galaxy instead of a region on a map. I'm excited, yet cautious after the release and recent handling of TWWH3.

that last shot makes it seem like it's still basically regions on a map, with the difference being purely visual. I'm more surprised that it's going to be a heavy ranged focus, considering how many issues WH3 has had with ranged combat

Henry Cavill is furiously masturbating right now.

I own a few copies of Total War I got through giveaways. Can anyone recommend some good tutorials for someone who has never even booted up a TW game?

The games have tutorials built in. There's levels of advice you can turn up or down. Seriously, just play the game and you'll learn as you go.

I love the series, but honestly could not learn how to play Pharaoh for some reason.

Pharaoh was balanced around chariots and chariots are obnoxious and desperately need micro managing. Worst entry point possible tbh.

Shogun, Rome, or the Warhammer are definitely better entry points. I've heard good things about the Three Kingdoms too but haven't got around to that one

Never played any Total War games but this definetly made me want to get into it.

The original Total War: Warhammer fantasy trilogy are by far the best TW games. And if you own multiple then you can combine them in one giant mega campaign. Definitely check them out when they are on sale.

I would love to play it. But all the modern Total War games tend to include DENUVO which is a big no-no for me. And with no denuvo crackers active I don't think it would be possible to remove it soon.

Too bad Creative Assembly has gone to shit some time ago.

I am expecting a broken product with broken promises

[–] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

I'd expect it to be ok, but a second game coming out before the first ever really got fully fixed.

Yes, it's going to be longer than expected for Total War Star Wars

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Excited to see how much of a cash grab this is

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The Total War Warhammer games definitely milk you on dlc but compared to the tabletop game they're a bargain...

Not counting the cost of your PC in the first place

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I play the tabletop sometimes is TW pretty close gameplay wise?

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In the sense that there's a lot of moving units around and ranges are important. All the dice rolling is just going to be stat blocks though, obviously, but the Warhammer Fantasy actually did a pretty good job of converting the units into the game.

The characters were usually pretty well done but they did make some weird decisions in characterization and they by and large ignored timeline questions, like Bretonnia had a Joan of Arc type historical character that's playable.

Alright well thanks for getting me hyped again

[–] omgboom@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago

I've just started reading the Warhammer 40k books the last few months. This looks amazing, I can't wait to jump into that universe

[–] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago

holy shit those last few seconds of actual gameplay. game looks a lot like the Dawn of War series, which is fitting. I wasn't really sure 40k could fit the Total War mould, but seems like CA is willing to break the mould in pursuit of more money.

Man, if only I could get into turn-based (strategy or not) games, I'm missing good stuff between this and BG3, but it never clicks with me 😞

Edit : to be fair, I know on the other side, some people who don't like "action" games like Darktide or Space Marine are also missing good stuff

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

The Total War series isn't exactly turn based. The large scale strategic stuff is, where you position your armies and run your economy, but all of the battles are real time (with pause / ability to slow down time).
