/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

I mean, how else do you explain TNG:"Cost of Living", which I think overall is perhaps the most drug trip episodes of TNG, and that's including "Frame of Mind".

Weird multicolored disembobied head in a bubble.

Is that the one where Worf complains about a mud bath being too similar to bathing lol

[–] data1701d@startrek.website 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Indeed, and where despite supposed to be getting married, Lwaxana spoils Alexander, and in doing so, is a better parent than Worf ever was.

And somehow, it all works out, and Worf, Alexander, Deanna, and Lwaxana all end up in a mud bath in a holodeck program that gives the vibes of the aliens' version of Alice in Wonderland.

"Back in my day we didn't need any fancy 'holodecks' to trip balls!"

[–] data1701d@startrek.website 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

So an ancient alien technology that can literally bring people back from the dead doesn't count as "fancy"?

Hah, was that the deus ex machina they ended up going with? I'll be honest I've tried to watch Shore Leave at least 3 times and I don't think I've ever made it to the end. It's just so silly. Allison Pregler did a pretty funny breakdown of the episode.

[–] data1701d@startrek.website 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Oh, my gosh. That video is hilarious. Makes the episode 10 times funnier, and it was already beautifully campy to begin with.

And don’t forget the sequel episode in TAS, in which the planet tries to kill them because it’s depressed about its creator dying. Although it’s not as hilarious an episode as the one where Captain Kirk literally defends the human rights of Satan.

Hahaha TAS had some absolutely unhinged episodes, I'm glad I watched it just to see the callbacks in LD. Love that they brought back the three-part plant alien to do that crew evaluation in the holodecks. Also not just Satan, but needlessly sexy space-wizard Satan.

Although we haven’t really started it yet beyond session 0 yet, the chief medical officer I made in Star Trek Adventures campaign I have with my siblings is a Pandronian who really hates being asked about the three parts thing.

It probably sucks writing Trek now.

Ellison: make it a story about an individual chosen one. Yeah, like she is the ghost statue. That'll do.

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

sigh that was a let down.

I mean, a woman (who is portrayed as being older than in her 20s) gets hybridised with an alien (who appears monstrous) and gains super abilities is so in my wheelhouse I might have built my wheelhouse around the concept ... but then with a snap of the fingers she's stuck somewhere immobile for all time. :-(

For me, its also antithetical to Star Trek. I want to see stories of the crew overcoming obstacles by using their unique skillsets to work together. I could be enundated with that everyday and not tire. What I dont want to see is individuals saving the day because they are oh-so special and don't need anyone else. Thats capitalist propaganda.

kurtzman never liked trek, he said himself he dint care about the continuity at all. nutrek is just bad all around, the writing is so bad, and the showrunner/executives were definitely pushing obvious agendas.

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yup, ditto on that ... and it would be easy to create a story where mature-woman-who-is-part-killer-croc is not simply the magical solution to everything, but is a needed part of the team that does fix things.

[–] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

It was the perfect time to involve crew members of different species and bring them all together. It was literally in the plot. So infuriating and not to mention boring

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Or this one Commander is a good by-the-book 1st officer to one of the most decorated officers in all of Starfleet history, who also kinda sorta happens to be the never-before-mentioned adopted sister is a classic ST cornerstone character, then for some inexplicable reason goes against everything towards insurrection and starts a massive war and is thrown in jail. Until they're the only one who can solve current problem and suddenly things are back to normal. Until some inexplicable time travel event occurs and they're the only one who can solve it because it cause just so happens to be their parents. Then they get flung into the future where the galaxy is in shambles...and even though they're about 900 years out of date they're the only ones who can solve it

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 1 points 23 hours ago

Yes, makes total sense. Also, everyone must be crying all the time.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 0 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

it was bad before, they lifted it from memory wiki alpha and worst BETA non-canon. in one instance they use the word for word from a page on the wiki.

[–] middlemanSI@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Polarized tachyon field has put our warp core in reverse time captain. The ship will dissasemble in 7 minutes sir. Should we attempt to recalibrate every other conduite? If we then overload the primary sensor matrix, we could reverse the effect and save this ship.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 22 hours ago

nutrek largely stopped using the technobabble.

Like letting the air out of a balloon!

Don't leave out pursuing Memory Alpha, but not actually reading the pages.
