"The Party told you to ignore the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command." - 1984

In an attempt to back-peddle and cover his own ass, he is kinda pointing to a real phenomenon.

When there's a problem politicians are expected to fix, promising "affordable solutions" sounds good without ever actually committing to anything specific. Saying you're in favor of affordable housing is all well and good, but that language is vague enough to mean anything from new Section 8 buildings to tax breaks for private manufactures. And affordable to who? Affordable at what income? Somehow these questions never get asked.

I mean, they do and many politicians do go into these kinds of details (look at the language of bills). These kinds of questions though don't make good headlines.

You are right that there is some "beat around the busg" mentality in politics, but inflation and affordability has really focused on groceries for the past year or so with things like the price of eggs, Thanksgiving meals, etc.

Trump makes a far better pundit than a politician. When it's just him talking shit about the people in charge, he has an incredible way of stating the blinding obvious truth and still getting invited back on TV to repeat the performance.

He's got Jon Stewart energy in that way.

Makes me wonder how Jon Stewart would govern as president

Makes me wonder how Jon Stewart would govern as president

The simple fact that he absolutely does not want the job tells me he'd probably be pretty damned good at it...

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them. To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job. To summarize the summary of the summary: people are a problem.

He'd certainly be very popular, at least.

And end the russian invasion in 24h too!

I mean the "russo ukrainian war" of course (/s), cannot anger the boss putin by calling him out, right?

[–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

What's he gonna do? Honestly, why is anyone afraid this dude?

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Putin?

He is a manipulator master mind and a fine tactician, and have the deaths or millions on his hands. Civilians, opponents, ...

Thinking he's an idiot won't get you far.

Trump is a moron, but has the control of the biggest economy in the world and the biggest army in the world, I mean if that was the type you inquired about

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago

Let me guess, Biden's fault.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 7 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

[–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 2 points 3 weeks ago

You forgot about the exclamation point.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Now most things cost you $0 cause you can afford them anymore.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Everything's affordable when you take the five finger discount

[–] InvalidName2@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago

My town was inundated with yard signs that said "Trump low prices, Kamala high prices".

It's one thing to lie about wearing adult diapers and pooping your pants. It's another thing to lie about shit like this that affects the entire country.

[–] DylanMc6@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

we need a revolution. seriously!

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Most of your country either supported this guy or was too apathetic to care.

[–] DylanMc6@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago

then we should form an alternative socialist government of the united states as a form of micronation. seriously!

[–] caboose2006@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Um, excuse me op, it's the word that a scam. He said bring prices down, not make stuff more affordability.
