MAGA’s mission to meddle in European politics should terrify Starmer, Macron and Merz. Will any of them fight back?

Donald Trump has launched a crusade to convert European politics to his cause, mobilizing the full force of American diplomacy to promote “patriotic” parties, stamp on migration, destroy “censorship” and save “civilization” from decay.

The question is whether Europe’s embattled centrists have the power, or the will, to stop him. In its newly released National Security Strategy document, the White House set out for the first time in a comprehensive form its approach to the geopolitical challenges facing the U.S. and the world.

While bringing peace to Ukraine gets a mention, when it comes to Europe, America’s official stance is now that its security depends on shifting the continent’s politics decisively to the right.

Starmers labour needs no help from maga to throw next election. They completely managed to bugger everything up themselves. The shit they come out with is beyond ridiculous, sure there are a couple of delivered manifesto items that are actually helpful to general public, but predominantly they are just conservatives lite already. Most swing supporters won't stay with them come next election. No help from maga needed there.

I can't tell if New Labour is as bad as the Democrats yet, but boy do they also seem determined to serve the interests of the Epstein class, at the direct and immediate expense of everyone else.

I don't think they are. They certainly suck in many ways, however currently it seems most likely the shit show is a result of terrible and out of touch advisors to the top positions rather than actual malice.

Us in Latin America: "First time? “

[–] rammer@sopuli.xyz 9 points 2 days ago

Hardly. US has been meddling in our elections for a long time. The meddling just hasn't been as direct or as kinetic as in your cases.

I really hope that we will unite with the Americas against the US and their oppressive government. The EU has been too passive for too long.

You'd think one look at the state of America would be enough to render their propaganda completely meaningless. You'd really think. You would really have those thoughts running through your head. But here comes reality with a steel chair to give you a concussion.

The issue really is one of detecting this interference quickly and calling it out. Brexit passed on the back of foreign election interference, but the evidence is only coming out many years later. If you don't detect it and call it out, people take it as legitimate discussion of their countrymen.

I don't think there's anything maga could do that's worse than what Starmer is doing to himself.

The German word for Trump is "Hurensohn".

What do they mean by destroy censorship?

[–] 3abas@lemmy.world 30 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Being held accountable for racist and openly hateful fascist speech.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 days ago

It also means introducing censorship of all messages and movements that don't support fascism.

Destroy state oversight of corporate oversight of media and communication.
