How can one country declare another country's airspace closed?

[–] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

What? Do you really think the US would enforce that by shooting down civilian airliners?

[–] FilthyHands@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Without a doubt. It would get Hegseth so hard.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

In 2025? Yes. And claim they were carrying drugs or some shit.

[–] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yep. When you have two aircraft carriers in their airspace, you make the laws.

These aren't "laws". They're war crimes committed by a fascist regime.

Sure, but realistically, we are unfortunately now in another “might makes right” geopolitical era without any ostensible veneer of equity or justice. Personally, I thought most of the developed world was moving past that, but it seems we are not, and that makes me sad.

The Monroe Doctrine, everyone in South America knows about it. It's the excuse to fuck around in everyone's business in the western hemisphere since 1823.

Time to embrace the French tradition of relieving monarchs of their head privileges

He said it in a truth social post, which has all of the legal standing of a juicy fart

[–] amateurcrastinator@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago (2 children)

No no no, he DECLARED it! That's as good as a law or something right?

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It is now, or have you not been paying attention for the past 11 months?

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

To dictators it is. Thankfully most of us aren't dictators.

Venezuela is a developing country, has the world's largest known oil reserves, and has been one of the world's leading exporters of oil.

Well that explains it

[–] pacology@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Didn’t they nationalized all oil fields and kicked out all western companies like 10 years ago?

[–] bystander@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 month ago

Looks like the "western companies" found a warmongering president to take it back for them.

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 26 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Obvious imperialist warmongering is obvious.

He's sure to get the Nobel Peace Prize now!

I see the bad moon arising….

[–] einkorn@feddit.org 9 points 1 month ago

I see trouble on the way

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

My aunties all live there. Are they all going to die in a hellfire attack?

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No. They might get shot by occupation forces instead.

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Given they are over 80 and blind I doubt that.

[–] EvilHankVenture@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You have too much faith in occupying forces.

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

Not really. I know how brutal the US army can be, it’s just these are old people. Mostly housebound. I wonder if they will just burn.
