Gotta make money somehow, because they cant make much money on the basis of AI's output.

Ah yes, the technology that will allegedly end human labor and render currency worthless is so wildly profitable using their revolutionary business model of… checks notes targeted advertising

My understanding is that GPT ads could be highly personalised as the AI knows everything about you

Fuck AI but fuck this bullshit too.

"tHe aI" doesn't know "everything about you". ChatGPT knows exactly what you've told it

I mean, it probably knows everything you've told it plus everything the data brokers have managed to exfiltrate from you and about you.

Right, but it's still probably not "ChatGPT" that knows any of that, because I very much doubt they're going to be using the LLM itself for selecting ads from their ad supply – they're already losing shitloads of money on running the LLM, and even very well targeted ads pay a pittance so they'd be losing more money than they'd be bringing in.

It'd make no sense to give the LLM access to data from data brokers, and it's unlikely OpenAI even has that data. Their advertising system is likely completely separate from the LLM

The question is when they’ll start trying to inject ads in the prompt answers? Maybe even put product placement in generated imagery.

You think they aren't already doing this? I cannot imagine the angle being overlooked.
