Religion is a great scam.

  1. Convince people there is a god.
  2. Convince them that you know what god wants.
  3. Tell them what god wants (here is where you tell them whatever you want in order to take advantage of them)
  4. Convince them that if they do not obey god (what you tell them) that they will suffer for eternity.

Now you've got them in the palm of your hand.

Spirituality is great. Belief in a greater good and having a positive moral view of the world is wonderful.

Organized religion is a gigantic steaming bucket of horseshit.

Once upon a time it was a good way to help build a community and to help pass along social knowledge of living in groups, however people very quickly learned it could be used for control and since then has been another means of exerting power over gullible people.

I like the Old Testament stuff. Total dickbag God for the win. Feels more realistic.

I'm not religious but I'm not against people who are. My only issue is the fact that there are a lot of bad actors when it comes to religion. Churches are a scam and actually go against the Bible. There are so many people who act like they are better than everyone who doesn't follow the same religion they do, which I think is also goes against the Bible to at least some extent. And then there's the fact that some religious circles act like cults.

Shouldve become obsolote but alas!

I am religious, but nobody on here wants to hear about it.

What a completely ignorant statement. Just because people posses negative views of religion doesn't mean "no one wants to hear about". How about actually disproving and arguing with good faith instead of posting such a meaningless ignorant comment?

Your kinda proving his point by insulting him immediately haha.

[–] WilliamA@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

critiquing is 1 thing and insulting is another haha

I don't agree. It does come across slightly insulting. A better critique could be like..

I don't think people having negative views of religion means no one will is willing to have a proper discussion about it. Have you tried discussing your ideas in a way that...

Because I go on Lemmy for the news and for uplifting discussion. Many of my beliefs, such as kindness, compassion, and personal growth do not cause a stir here. However if I discuss some of my other beliefs, I will generally be down voted because the overwhelming majority of users here disagree with me. My goal when using Lemmy is to have constructive conversation, not contention. I want everyone to feel welcome, and in return, I want to feel welcome myself. Hope this gives you some context for my earlier "ignorant statement." Happy Thanksgiving!

It needs to be small and personal for the purpose of enlightenment.

Organized religion and Forcing it on others is not the path.

[–] Faux@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 months ago

It will wither away with:

  1. Improving material conditions of people who won't need it as a coping mechanism anymore.
  2. There are alternative cultural hubs in rural areas.
  3. Alternative, secular forms of socially accepted fantasizing get popular.

I'm quite invested in the last point myself, actually. There are communities of adults having imaginary friends who are just imaginary friends.

All religions are shit.

It's like a second penis. Interesting, Unnecessary, Sonething to not pull out in public and to keep away from kids.

If I could press a button to make all religions disappear, I would.

Back in the days I was an anti-theist. Nowadays I just hate religion and think it did primarily bad things. (btw. in Germany the catholic church tried to sue someone for calling them "children-fucker-cult" and they failed - primarily because of formalities though; case is a bit more complex than that but who cares)

[–] mub@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 months ago

They are so entirely man made.

[–] hereforawhile@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 months ago

I'm speaking from someone who is a Christian, I understand there are many religions.

Catholicism has rituals and traditions that are absolutely man-made but I understand why they exist. I think they can distract from the core of what the gospel is.

I think the core of Jesus' teachings about love are pretty hard to deny and ring true even for unbelievers.

[–] arthur@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 months ago

I'm atheist, and don't mind religious people... Except when they try to shape society to reflect their moral values.

[–] greenbelt@lemy.lol 1 points 4 months ago

God is dead. He died during WW2.

[–] antrosapien@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 months ago

I do believe in some higher power but is neither benovolent nor malevolent. More in line of ancestral simulation theory. But religion, mehh..
