This is also the same guy who says every 5 years we are 1 year away from terraforming Mars.
news
Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:
-
To learn about and discuss meaningful news, analysis and perspectives from around the world, with a focus on news outside the Anglosphere and beyond what is normally seen in corporate media (e.g. anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist, Marxist, Indigenous, LGBTQ, people of colour).
-
To encourage community members to contribute commentary and for others to thoughtfully engage with this material.
-
To support healthy and good faith discussion as comrades, sharpening our analytical skills and helping one another better understand geopolitics.
We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.
Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:
The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.
-
Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.
-
Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.
-
Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.
-
Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.
-
Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.
-
Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.
-
American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.
-
Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.
-
AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
He also said optimus robot will end poverty lmao
Money please
Sorry pal, how about a bazinga bot instead?
I had to tell my dad, who insisted he's lived through worse economic crises despite me being alive for 2008, that in the "worst economy he's ever seen" of 1977 that the minimum wage of $2.65 would be like $13.50 today, and guess what? They increased it to 2.85 in 1978! A 7.5% pay raise! Almost like $14.50!
Comparatively at $17.51 today, as a vegan chef I'm making 20% more than the minimum wage burger flipper in the "worst economy in his lifetime" that my dad was.
He failed to take the obvious takeaway of "either things were actually really good in 1977, or things are actually really bad now" and told me to look for a new job
The man thinks I'm an idiot. So does my mom. Sorry I was only in the top of my class for the entirety of my education until I flunked out of college for not attending chemistry classes. I guess I just instantly went from genius to mud brain in that instant
P.s. honestly the comparison should be even worse because I don't trust "oh adjusting for inflation" to show actual purchasing power today when the official rate of inflation is absolutely turbo fucked from manipulation
I’m sorry about your experiences with Gen X, comrade. We’ve all been there. I bet all of their jokes are references to the same movies most people saw in the 80s and 90s too.
I’m guessing they also think their generation solved racism.
I think he's a boomer though? Idk he's in his 60s
Same rules apply except they’ll expire sooner.
So if money is about to be irrelevant, why are you hoarding all of the money?
WHY ARE YOU HOARDING ALL THE MONEY MOTHERFUCKER!?
Corgi Musk suggests poop comes out of my butthole
You have to mentally replace any date Musk says with the words "a million billion years", because that is what he means. It's a speech impediment.
i would settle for making elon musk optional and irrelevant
"Also we're going to become the most valuable publicly traded company in history by selling them for $30k apiece"

Especially after they dispose of us pesky humans!
They want proles to buy into the investment bubble right before it bursts to be bagholders.
If Elon Musk told me it was going to rain tomorrow I’d plan a day out at the park.
I mean I wish but he's lying like all capitalists
Definition of "capitalist": "Lying liar who lies." Also describes "politician". Courtesy of my mum, who regularly and casually calls our entire local government that exact description - "lying liars who lie". Usually when she's mad about education policy.
The most ardent capitalists seem to understand it the least
can we "work" to make AI "optional" and use our money to make Elon Musk "irrelevant" instead
Okay cool. Thank gosh we're finally working toward an agreed goal.
..Wait, it's just bourgeois virtue signalling to pretend he's not such a bad guy after all?
In America, only the rich can see work as optional and money ~~unimportant~~ as 'irrelevant' .
