my mom had great ways.
instead of telling me what to do, she'd - ask - if I could do it for her.
"can you help me by cutting the grass?"
worked like a charm; soothed my hate of taking orders, fulfills helping mother unit, distracts from other issues.
My mum used to do this, but I wised up to it and she changed tactics. Now as an adult man, she says "Help me cut the grass. Make the time. Don't be a pussy."
Triggers me into reminding myself I'm not a kid. Goddammit
Listen, it's not that i hate being told what to do, it's that I don't like my generosity to be taken advantage of... Also sometimes I hate being told what to do
YES!!!! I’m crazy generous as well, always helping everyone around all the time. And some just have to take advantage of this…
But whenever I need help, or need someone to count on…
poof everyone disappears like a bunch of scared bunnies.
Routines is our friend. Routines takes care of us.
How did you manage to get them into the harnesses? That would make life a hell of a lot easier.
Currently they have slip knots around my neck, and are insisting on running off in different directions.
Individual freedom is of utmost importance to us, but on our own, we feel lost & lonely. So we seek connection and comfort, but that binds us, so we run back to freedom. This is the see-saw or the yin-yang that applies to all life. Your cats for instance enjoy watching you from a distance, but stare back at them, and they will feel uncomfortable enough to walk away.
Someone close to me was recently diagnosed with ADHD and Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD). Holy fucking shit what a combination.
I can best describe it as their ability to focus only on things that spark their interest in the moment and an immense searing resentment when it is suggested that's the case.
But, having the diagnosis has helped us understand and help this person. Along with medication and therapy. If you have the means and think you might be this person, please seek help. It is life changing
Not to sound like another meme, but isn't this just a normal human thing?
From personal experience, most behavioural/mental/psychological disorders are just that, but condensed and amplified to extremes.
Having ADHD is like riding a rollercoaster and forgetting to get off every time it stops, then spending the rest of the loop distractedly wondering why and trying to figure out a way to get off it, during which you miss the exit again.

Oh yes, fully understand ADHD and other mental disorders (both from medical and more personal experience). I just mean this particular meme doesn't feel as on target as others posted.
