I just don't think the fascist supporters really need AI as deniability. Even if Trump told them face-to-face that he loves raping children, they'll make excuses for him, or act like it was just a joke.

[–] starman2112@lemmy.world 35 points 4 months ago (3 children)

They'll start saying shit like "Epstein wasn't a pedophile, he was into the barely legal 15 year olds" or something like that

Wow, I must be psychic or something

"Mary was a teenager and Joseph was an adult carpenter" - conservatives, ~~probably~~ actually, in ~~the future~~ 2017

Supporters defend Roy Moore: “Mary was a teenager and Joseph was an adult carpenter” | Vox - https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/11/9/16630464/supporters-defend-roy-moore-mary-joseph

Something something legal age in Japan!

[–] phaedrus@piefed.world 3 points 4 months ago

Or use it to finally be truthful with everyone else that they are, in fact, the very same as he is.

[–] BillDaCatt@lemmy.world 33 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I think it might be simpler than that. I think the people who were already invested in energy heard about the energy needs of AI and started investing there to prop up the cost fossil fuel. Then Trump and friends got involved and killed several renewable energy initiatives. I think it's all about greed, and not much else.

In public, even. 🥵

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 16 points 4 months ago (5 children)

I dont see how it could be plausible, given the photo apparently predates gen AI

[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 24 points 4 months ago

That’s not how plausible deniability works. They create a tool that can make highly realistic graphics and then claim the real photos, when released, are just AI slop.

[–] Rhyfel@lemmy.world 20 points 4 months ago

That doesn't matter to the right, as long as they have something they can lie about they will

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

Because there’s no way to fake the data that determines a photos age?…. or they just refute any chain of custody with regards to any actual photos. The conservatives would just scream fake or AI regardless of the actual truth and that would be the end of it.

[–] starman2112@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

How can you tell if a photo you see predates generative AI? Anyone can slap a "2009-10-15" in the metadata

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 1 points 4 months ago

I mean, there's not really any way to prove that

[–] ZkhqrD5o@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

What Putin blackmail photos? For real, never heard of it.

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 10 points 4 months ago (1 children)
[–] ZkhqrD5o@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Genuine question, is this real?

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 12 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Good question. These supposedly came from some committee in the US gov.

[–] Hope@lemmy.world 13 points 4 months ago

Yeah, I can confirm that that email was part of the release on house.gov. HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_030716 in the zip archive here: https://oversight.house.gov/release/oversight-committee-releases-additional-epstein-estate-documents/

[–] ZkhqrD5o@lemmy.world 10 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Well then it's pretty credible. The only problem is the judicial system in the USA is so fucked that a convicted felon can have the highest position in their state. And they even stated that they won't prosecute a president no matter what crime he committed. So, what does it matter? At this point, the guy is convicted of multiple felonies and has committed multiple crimes during his term as president. And no one's going to do anything about that.

[–] tdawg@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Yeah but if you start baring criminals from political positions then you end up with the opposite problem too. A corrupt official could just have their opponents convicted

Idk if there's a clean cut solution in terms of black and white text. Maybe in terms of enforcement and intent, but that's always changing

[–] ZkhqrD5o@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

He was convicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records and more importantly, he rallied people for an act of terrorism, namely attacking the parliament.

While I realise it's more complicated than just a blanket ban for all criminals, in the case of Donald Trump, IMO, it really is that easy.

Edit: He also stole government documents. Another offense added to a list the US judicial system wipes its ass with.

[–] baronvonj@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

Specifically he engaged in literally the one crime that carries a penalty including being banned from holding office (the whole insurrection thing). And the Supreme Court made up some bullshit that individual states can't enforce it.

I’m hoping that either he will implode from embarrassment, or his base will. If we’re really lucky, maybe both?

~Maybe not. But a boy can dream.~

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

The emails seem to be real. If the people there are telling the truth, it's your guess.

[–] carpelbridgesyndrome@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It's the one possible positive outcome of AI: it gets a lot harder to blackmail people.

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

But also easier with deep fakes.

[–] Tigeroovy@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 months ago

Well he did roll out that “Fake News” slogan bullshit real fast the first time around.
