Our galactic citizens have requested more specific rules, so here are a few.

The general idea is, if you're looking here for rules, you're probably someone who doesn't need to have them spelled out. You're fine. But anyway:

  1. This is a community for Star Wars memes. This means typically screenshots of Star Wars media with some text or context that's meant to be funny and/or thoughtful. All SW media is welcome: movies, games, comic books, fanart... Other kinds of content, like video links or meta memes (about this community, or Lemmy), are fine as well, just keep it on topic.

  2. We are all friends here, and love (sometimes love to hate) Star Wars. Be nice to each other.

  3. As fans of fictional media, we can be passionate. If you very strongly disagree with something or someone, take a deep breath before reacting. Anger leads to the dark side!

  4. Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and it's a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldn't concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. This applies even if it's about something related to Star Wars.

  5. Original content is preferred. Reposts are fine, just please limit to a maximum of 3 per day, per citizen. It is recommended, but not required, to mark original memes as (OC) and reposts as (repost).

  6. Local mods are the Jedi council. They may take actions that are necessary to maintain peace and stability of the Republic, even beyond the rules outlined here. Follow their guidance.

  7. Regular rules of the Lemmy.world instance apply.

Why would a Tatooinian farmer be voting for a Naboonian senator?

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 63 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Well, technically...Tatooine was not a member of the Republic.

Illegal commies from the border planets are all hutt gangsters and wizard hermits hooked on spice trying to steal our precious imperial fluids

Luke, do you realize that in addition to blueidating milk, why, there are studies underway to blueidate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, water... ice cream. Ice cream, Luke, children's ice cream. You know when blueidation first began? Eight Teen Bee Bee Why, Luke. How does that coincide with your post-war clonie conspiracy, huh? It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious imperial fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core clonie works.

Imperial fluids

Donald, is that you?

Yeah the metaphor doesn’t really work with Star Wars’ electoral system, the candidacies, or Owen Lars’s specific opinions/role. Maybe Nute Gunray saying “The war is over. Lord Sidious promised us peace” and then immediately getting killed is a more apt leopards-eating-face scenario.

The fact that each planet elects their representatives in different ways definitely fits the US though

Bit of a strained metaphor, seeing as Amidala was actually anti-war and not a fan of genocide. Libs in the Star Wars Universe would be calling Amidala a separatist droid.

But Owen was a slave owner...

In retrospect the Star Wars galaxy is pretty fucked when you think about it.

Same as a conservative, Owen's just lying about his actual goals, the continuing 1000-year genocide of the Tuskens and protecting his slavery backed holdings.

Obligatory Star War News because I love this move and the showdy.

This is brilliant. Thanks for sharing.

I just realized he's the guy who plays the main character in Dark Matter (2024)

He was a slave (or just sold his kid/nephew into slavery?) way before Palpation rose to power, and wasn't even in the same republic/empire.

You seem confused about Owen.

Owen is Anakin's stepbrother. His father bought/freed/whatever'd Shmi after Owen's mother died, and neither had anything to do with Anakin's slavery.

Tatooine does get annexed back into the Republic/Empire shortly after the events of the movie iirc. In old canon it was always part of the Republic so people get confused on the status a lot. I think the current canon is that was part of the Old/High Republic and had slipped out into Hutt control at some point.

Now Owen was a slave holder, he owns several droids on his metaphor for a frontier farm in the middle of Manifest Destiny.

Thx for the info!
So Anakin lived with his mother, who wasn't a slave, and neither was Owen - but Anakin was?

And yes, I just assumed the planet was always under Hutts, but the lore def got expanded, which is always nice.
