Still impressive that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe got sold so many, as it is only a "Re-release" on a single platform.

Yes, but it had only previously been released on the Wii U, so for most people it was brand new.
At this point I'd consider the WiiU version a beta in comparison.
I still need to finish this game. Still plugging away after all these years.
I suspect its lead will only widen since Mario Kart World will intercept most new purchases for that franchise, and we certainly won’t see another Red Dead Redemption for a LONG time.
The other thing is red dead is on sale for like 30 dollars right now.
Mario Kart never goes on sale.
so of course with al this money and success, Rockstar union busts.
I still have barely played my copy 😭
Mario Kart 8 was previously at the fourth spot for best-selling games of all time (units sold), with the title pushing 78.02 million copies across the Wii U and Nintendo Switch. Now Red Dead Redemption 2 has taken its place, and the only games ahead of it are Wii Sports with 82.9 million units (bundled with Wii U consoles), Grand Theft Auto 5 with over 220 million units sold-in to date, and in the first spot, we have Minecraft with over 350 million sold.
