The Federal Aviation Administration's unprecedented order to scale back flights nationwide because of the record-long government shutdown is set to take effect Friday morning.

The 40 airports selected by the FAA span more than two dozen states and include hubs such as Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles and Charlotte, North Carolina, according to the order.

In some metropolitan areas, including New York, Houston, Chicago and Washington, multiple airports will be impacted, while the ripple effects could reach smaller airports as well.

If you are maga, and upset about your travel being canceled, just take solace in knowing that trump is getting his big beautiful ballroom. The skyrocketing price of groceries is nothing to worry about because Musk just got a trillion dollar compensation package. Being furloughed or fired is fine, as long as those filthy immigrants are gettin’ bagged and booted, ammiright?

As it becomes increasingly difficult to travel, or eat, or get healthcare, just rejoice in that you live in the greatest country in the world.

Imagine thinking "Yeah I'm gonna become a huge piece of shit and help out a felon pedophile rapist destroy an icon of the United States but at least I'll be rich."

It's like the perfect form of irony.

Everyone on Lemmy politics could have written this headline the day the work started happening, Trump has a 50+ year tenure stiffing contractors.

Edit: Snopes Fact check calls this an unconfirmed rumour

And yet people still line up to do work for him. It’s seriously a “well it’ll be different for me!” delusion.

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

I bet a large portion of those workers voted for him as well.

It might as well be an unconfirmed rumour that the sun is going to rise in the east tomorrow, guess we'll just wait for confirmation

And hey, Mike Johnson is keeping the Epstein investigation files sealed during this shutdown. So chin up little MAGA, your pedo president is being protected by you getting stranded in the Des Moines airport.

Cutting flights during the HOLIDAYS is a GREAT Policy! WHY did Voters REJECT it Tuesday at the Polls? CRAZY!

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Holidays in America have just become another opportunity for the wealthy to steal more resources. We need to bring the economy to a halt ourselves because neoliberalism and conservatives are going to drive the train right off cliff in order to say their house was bigger than their neighbors.

[–] coyootje@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago

Maybe this will finally get those privileged boomers that voted the annoying orange in off their asses. Although I also think a lot of them probably don't get many visitors anymore since they're so extremely Maga...

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

If the airlines layoff their employees, it should be the MAGA clowns.

What is the dot between DC and Atlanta?

[–] lividweasel@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)
[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's going to be a mess. Big financial center.

[–] phdepressed@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I mean these include the hubs for pretty much all major domestic (and international) air travel.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 4 points 1 week ago

Oh yes, they're all impactful. But given its dot was asked about, many may not know what significance Charlotte is vs. other well known major cities.

[–] Ancalagon@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

That's not right lol ai slop?

[–] AmazingAwesomator@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

charlotte, maybe?

[–] thatradomguy@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Somehow, people are still flying... which boggles my mind. They're seeing what's happening. There was that plane crash that happened not that long ago. Also the collision with the military flying thing not that long ago either. People are still choosing to fly knowing of the current situation. Make it make sense to me.

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The safety has gone from safer than driving to... still safer than driving. I'm much more worried about long lines and having flights cancelled, but work said I have to be in CA next week and I don't have time to drive.

I don't have patience to work a phone tree like my life depends on it so if they cancel my flight I'll probably just go back home and tell them it's the shutdown's fault.

It takes awhile to drag an average down...

Womp womp. My partner and I are in the process of a cross country move (out of Texas! Woo hoo!) and we're supposed to fly back next week to finally pack up our stuff and get the house ready to rent out. It's been sitting on the market for 5 months and hemorrhaging money now that we're gone, so we're finally throwing in the towel and accepting that we're going to have a long-term financial tie to Texas.

[–] Ironfist79@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

So much winning.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago

LOL. My company had a hugely important flight to get valuable business rolling for tomorrow morning. Months and months of countless hours from a good 100 bunch of good guys and gals. Then some asshole from the government just has to chime in.

But I'm having karaoke night. No worries. We'll get over this shit.
