ProtonDB is so helpful for Linux gaming. First place I check when I get interested in a game.

I stopped checking since it seemed to always work with single player and indie multiplayer

Even most big multiplayer games work now. EAC works fine on linux. It's just the extremely anti-consumer companies who decide to go out of their way to exclude Linux users, like Riot and EA.

Ironically, Microsoft moving to eliminate kernel level anticheat after what happened with Crowdstrike will eventually mean Wine/Proton will run such games just fine unless they go out of their way to detect and ban Linux like Bungie do with Destiny 2.

It's wild how fast this has turned around. A few years back I tried running my home media server on Linux and quickly ran back to Windows when I couldn't figure out permissions. I assumed I'd never have the patience for Linux. Now I have a Steam Deck and it's the only thing I've played games on for the past year.

Good to hear! I'm soft-prepping to transition over. Still back and forth between Bazzite and CachyOS atm, but I've been doing some research and most of what I play runs on Linux.

I'm still a bit curious about Nvidia vs AMD performance in terms of GPUs. Some tests I saw seemed to go back and forth. How are Nvidia's drivers these days?

Just go AMD unless you're getting a 5090 or something. AMD Driver support on Linux is incredible.

On Garuda rn, works good

There is no world where I'll use windows as my main. I'd rather buy a Mac than use windows. I hate my office laptop so much.

Haven't touched Windows in years on my desktop pc, the only games I've missed out on are games that would probably be better left untouched anyway

Can't wait until Microsoft shoots itself in the foot for profit and causes a massive adoption of foss operating systems

VR sucks on Linux

I had performance problems on Linux with Factorio around stuttering during combat that I didn't have on Windows. It's the only thing stopping me from fully giving up the Windows partition. It might be the drive that I'm using for Linux but I have to check because I'm pretty sure I'm using a similar drive for Windows (non-SSD)
