asking for the boy i'm in love with... he's been enjoying the CCTV view of four ambient / background yt vids at once, but tonight yt started asking him to sign in to confirm he's not a bot and effectively blocking him from using them (it works for him on yt proper bc he's signed in, but not through the sites that allow. multiple vids)

i'm not sure an alternative frontend would help, but i figured i'd ask if any of them had support for multiple videos? i think the proper solution will just to get him on a VPN but i figured i'd ask

asked here because i wasn't sure where else would be appropriate πŸ˜… thanks in advance

if yt-dlp isn't blocked, yt-dlp with mpv would probably work. just have multiple mpv windows

Oof... the "sign in to confirm you're not a bot" thing actually hit a lot of the popular alternative frontends way earlier than when it was rolled out to main YouTube; it was actually one of the main reasons that made me drop Invidious. Sorry but I don't think I know if there is a direct workaround especially now that YT is quite sensitive about alternative frontends...

As others suggested, yt-dlp seems to always find a way, so if you don't mind downloading the videos locally and/or use mpv to stream them that is always an option

Maybe also try asking on c/nostupidquestions?

Idea:

  1. download the videos to your computer with yt-dlp
  2. Open up 4 videos at once with a local video player app that opens videos individually by window 3a. Resize each window into quadrants for the monitor 3b. Get four monitors and stack them in quadrants 4 success!

MPV/SMTube has a yt-dlp plugin that works but needs to be recent versions of both player and yt-dlp to work right.
