Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

Can I get a statement from Chuck Schumer along the lines of “These are illegal murders, and when we have the ability we will prosecute every single person involved in these strikes. Members of the military have a responsibility to disobey unlawful orders, and you will be court marshaled and tried for murder if you do not.”

Like, in a reasonable world if and when the Dems regain power I want them to pass new laws to prosecute the people responsible for all this shit. But could we at least threaten to enforce existing law??? This is already illegal! Everyone who gives the order and everyone who follows it, all the way down the chain, is breaking the law and can be imprisoned for it.

Libs would rather cry about a building being remodeled than death and destruction done to the global south

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 26 points 2 months ago

Honestly planning on making a big sign that shows the white house and Gaza that says "if you care about 1 building built by slaves but don't care about genocide you aren't actually opposing fascism" and taking it to the next no kings bullshit

if you are a narco-terrorist smuggling drugs in our hemisphere, we will treat you like we treat Al-Qaeda.

So, funding and a requested list of targets?

[–] PunishedWeezing@hexbear.net 23 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Deposing a sovereign nation to place them as the leadership?

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 2 months ago

And lift sanctions afterwards 😂

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 9 points 2 months ago

Only after you accept US led ideology first. Then you can commit all the crimes you want.

[–] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

Holy shit he's going to war against the CIA and JSOC now?

[–] sexywheat@hexbear.net 38 points 2 months ago

This is just straight up state terrorism, although I would expect nothing less from The Burger Reich.

In bad country the state sponsored terrorists leave their homeland periodically to murder random citizens of other countries.

[–] woodenghost@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago

Yes, that's literally what is happening.

[–] Grownbravy@hexbear.net 27 points 2 months ago (3 children)

The fact that ten of them happened and no one stopped to think “Are we sure this time?” bothers me.

[–] john_brown@hexbear.net 35 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They know these aren't traffickers, they're not that stupid. They're trying to provoke a response from Venezuela or Colombia now so they can justify further escalation.

[–] Grownbravy@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

This country sickens me

[–] Grownbravy@hexbear.net 28 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Of course even if they were traffickers they still shouldnt be doing that. What the fuck is up with these lemmings?

[–] Crucible@hexbear.net 19 points 2 months ago

Wouldn't surprise me at all to find out that these targets are picked by chatgpt and nobody gives a shit 'cause they can just blame computer

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 19 points 2 months ago (1 children)

And they aren't even doing this to drug traffickers anyway. Plenty of drugs are smuggled into the US by dangerous organizations who are helped by the US government. The feds would rather blow up boats carrying fruit than boats carrying cocaine because there's probably half a dozen CIA/FBI/DEA guys on the cocaine boat.

[–] Grownbravy@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

The pretext is incredibly flimsy anyway. A fishing boat doesnt have the range to travel several hundred miles to reach the american coastline from venezuela.

[–] blunder@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago

These are just the ten where they answered "yes"

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 25 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Treat narcos as you treat al-qaeda? Does he mean they're going to give them weapons and training, prop them up to goverment and then whitewash their image?

[–] Grapho@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 months ago

Yeah they're talking to the real narcos and not the fishermen for that one bit

[–] SupFBI@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago

Thanks Obama.

2 strikes in the Pacific Ocean when Venezuela doesn't even have any coastline there honk-enraged

[–] dead@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

My guess is that those attacks were meant to implicate Colombia after Colombia came out in support of Gaza.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 12 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

Is Tren de Aragua even real? Everything I've heard about it has been only talked about by chud media sphere first, and then lib media.

[–] Formerlyfarman@hexbear.net 18 points 2 months ago

No none of this real, even the use of fentanilo is widley exaggerated.

Even if it were real, so what. when the us held Afghanistan it was producing almost all the worlds opium, so exporting opium and opium products to the us is something everyone should do for the sake of symmetry.

[–] Grownbravy@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

I literally never heard of this “gang”

[–] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago

I know these guys' brains are chowder, but the fact that doing this doesn't seem to cause any cognitive dissonance around The Boss's stated goal of winning the Nobel Peace Prize still has to say something about the Nobel.

We will treat you like Al-Qaeda

Help them conquer Syria?

[–] SarahVanDistel@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

What about if you're a convicted felon and child molester?

[–] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

these guys were hamas right?
