This is Cortana all over again. And I don't remember people using Cortana at all...

[–] Antagnostic@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago

Cortana was a squandered opportunity for sure.

[–] KumaLumaJuma@feddit.uk 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Didn’t use cortana directly, but the “auto block out focus time” in my work diary was a freaking game changer and I am pissed they took it away.

[–] finalarbiter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm not sure if it's exactly the same, but there is a similar tool under 'viva insights' in teams

[–] KumaLumaJuma@feddit.uk 4 points 1 month ago

Unfortunately that doesn’t appear to be in our corporate-approved suite 😭😭

I wonder if I can use copilot in outlook to do something similar

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 6 points 1 month ago

I disabled it.

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

While I didn't use it regularly, I did use it here and there in both W10 and W10M. The jokes were pretty good too. But I'm an old-time halo player that is geeky as fuck so I'm laser-aligned with that demographic.

[–] FreedomAdvocate@lemmy.net.au 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's not, it's just a little character that shows for copilot voice.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

It does voices too?

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 63 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Users: We are putting our PFP as clippy because it symbolises a time where software worked locally and just wanted to help without spying on you.

Microsoft: wow they love that lil clippy fella let's make co pilot into a piss blob that floats around the screen spouting random facts its learnt from surveiling the users every move. It will be like their own personal FBI agent they will love it.

[–] FreedomAdvocate@lemmy.net.au 8 points 1 month ago

Bringing Clippy back as Copilot seems like the easiest, most obvious win Microsoft could get. I swear most of their customer facing decisions around stuff like this (and Xbox) are easy slam dunks that they fumble in the absolute dumbest fashion.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

"The internet used to talk all the tike about how they love their personal fbi agents"

[–] FireWire400@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I'm still not sure if Microsoft just doesn't get it or if they just love making stuff nobody wants... but then again, nobody wanted clippy back then either. I'm not sure Mico will age as gracefully as Clippy did, though.

I guess in a perfect world companies like MS or Google would get fined for wasting so many resources on shit they shut down a year later. Not saying Mico is gonna be one of those things of course, I would never!

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 51 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

A drop of piss?

It's Mico, the co-peelet!

[–] MelonYellow@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 month ago

Yoooooo! That gif where it does a little twirl had me busting out laughing in the car😂😂😂

[–] TimeSquirrel@kbin.melroy.org 46 points 1 month ago (2 children)

This will be the (fifth?) time Microsoft has tried to implement virtual assistants. And they are still exceedingly inefficient at it.

[–] oxysis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 month ago (4 children)

I know of Clippy, Cortana, Co-Pilot and Mico so 4 that I know of and all are very useless

That dog creeped me out as a kid. Microsoft did not do 3D well.

[–] greybeard@feddit.online 6 points 1 month ago

And the search Dog and Wizard. I suppose those don't count much, but they are worth remembering.

[–] Greddan@feddit.org 4 points 1 month ago

I found Cortana to be actually useful and way better than it's contemporaries, so of course they killed it instantly 🤣

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Basically that.

[–] Quazatron@lemmy.world 29 points 1 month ago (6 children)

I thought capitalism was about supply and demand. We demand something and corporations supply it. Who demanded this crap?

[–] Greddan@feddit.org 14 points 1 month ago

Capitalism is about ownership more than anything else. Capitalism states that the means of production is private property and to be used for the purpose of obtaining profit. As long as there is profit, supply and demand can go fuck itself along with the workers (those who produce). It really is a stupid system that can never be fully implemented (every economy is a mixed economy for a reason) since it naturally creates perverse incentive.

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 12 points 1 month ago

I’m convinced we are post capitalism now.

[–] ch00f@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

other capitalists

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Capitalism is about juggling numbers, empty promises, exploitation, pump & dump and „HODL🚀🚀🚀“

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 month ago

Oh man, they even have it wearing glasses and looking a lot like Microsoft Bob!

Why doesn't anyone do history anymore? There really is so much to be learned.

There are so many characters they can't do, it's like trying to choose a sports team mascot these days.

They still screwed it up.

[–] _druid@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

This lil piss guy gave me an idea.

We're gunna put AI and connectivity in Elf On A Shelf. The kids will be able to give their Christmas lists and confess their sins to the AI controlled Elf, which will have it's own Amazon wishlist.

The Elf will weigh the sins of the child, and deeming them worthy, will automatically order the appropriate gifts off the list, which will be delivered via drone down the chimney Christmas Eve, once the Elf determines the child has gone to sleep.

[–] ohlaph@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

I'd rather not

[–] FreedomAdvocate@lemmy.net.au 1 points 1 month ago

I don't know how or why but I've had this guy in my Copilot app on my iPhone in Australia for probably 2 months already lol. No one else I've showed it to and asked if they have it did either, even people with the same phone.
