Welcome to the News community!
Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.
Can't have any of that woke energy.
To be fair, it was turning the frogs gay. I feel like we need to evaluate the cost-to-benefit tradeoff between completely destroying the human race as we know it and having amphibians and other species that don't conform to traditional gender roles. It's a tough choice.
Fucker fights against windmills like he was Don Quiote.
Paunch-o Danza
Windmills are communist
The speed run continues.
But it's for AI and the huge benefits and this time the hype is different and meaningful!

Once AI takes over they'll switch from coal to humans in pods. Very eco friendly. Saw it in a documentary years ago.
That was all Neo-Zionist propaganda.
I keep wondering when they'll propose using coal to heat methane clathrates in the arctic for methane extraction. It really does seem like they're actively trying to warm the earth at this point.
Taco has a real fear of windmills for some weird reason. What did windmills ever do this jagoff, I wonder?
Affected the view of one of his properties, then became a dog whistle for his politics.
Scotland built some wind turbines off the coast in view of one of his shitty properties. That's literally all it is, the worst part is they actually look cool far more interesting than say a rig. Also the Scots should burn down the buildings on his property.
Rich people have ALWAYS hated air turbines for some reason. Growing up I remember them complaining about them "ruining their views" and becoming an "obstacle for boats" because there was a turbine farm something like 10 miles offshore. The sad thing is that rich people have so much money they can pay to have it shut down.
He thinks he's Don Quixote, but really he's just Don Shitote.
So... We'll use all that AI power to solve the climate crisis it's helping to exacerbate then? At what point does this house of cards collapse?
Patient, patient…not much longer now.
Whaaaaaaat I thought it was good clean coal though!
I still contend that Taco believes:
- That asylum seekers are called that because they are from an insane asylum.
- That stealth planes are invisible.
- And that clean coal is coal that is somehow washed and cleaned.
Prove me wrong. Please.
Idk if he even has beliefs at this point pretty sure he just believes whatever his handlers / Fox News jam into his ears atp. Anything to have attention and grift some more.
Canadian here. Nothing irritates me more than politicians (and the journalists reporting their bullshit) that espouse "clean coal" or "clean natural gas" or go on and on. It's not fucking clean. Shut the fuck up.
It's because they don't care about the workers dying from black lung and embrace the IBDYD mentality. I'll be dead, you'll be dead so who fucking cares about future generations?
It's a death cult.
Yeah it annoying. It also makes no sense to me that a party that pushes independence from other countries wouldn’t want renewables. Like nah let’s just buy oil instead. I hope Canada does well yall are my escape plan.
I believe AI is a great tool that we should develop further. But we need to be smart about it. Power-usage is stupidly important, and researchers have been looking at spiking neural networks (SNNs) for a while as a lower-powered option which more closely mimics the way the human brain works. I'm not a ML-researcher, but to me that translates to "biglier smarts and smallier electrickimicity". Maybe I'm wrong.
Now, from my drunk layman's understanding, SNNs haven't quite gotten to the point of giving outputs which are as useful as traditional artificial neural networks (ANNs). So there's an obvious reason they haven't become the standard. But does it really make sense for tech bros to invest billions building these datacenters across the globe for a model that is...likely to be obsolete, just because "AI" is the hype-word du jour? I don't think so. Seems to me that it makes more sense to pour research money into SNNs. But what do I know, I'm just a country hyper-chicken.
I've wondered the same, but without even knowing about SNNs. I just wonder how long this kind of scale will be needed? Or will something akin to Moore's Law or changes in software/algorithms make what is being built out (and the related power/water uses) irrelevant?
Apparently I got drunk and posted about SNNs. Awesome. Don't take anything I said as, in any way, valid. I'm a moron and this is wildly outside of my domain. Apologies for any confusion I may have caused with my idiocy.
Boycott LLMs, save the environment.
