This was not the first time that some villagers in the district of Dak Cheung had seen powerful new technologies materialize in the skies over their isolated homeland. More than half a century ago, American warplanes dropped millions of pounds of bombs in this region during the Vietnam War. In Dak Cheung, where most inhabitants are members of the Triang ethnic minority, many huts still stand on stilts fashioned from the shells of American bombs.

Where once American bombs fell, Chinese wind turbines now rise.

Look at the dumb Chinese, they are giving wind turbines to the locals to have clean energy, instead of bombing them with hellfire so they can built new huts.

sicko-satan : where once we, the good guys, did some morally grey things such as murdering entire countries with our Death Ray, now the bad guys are doing something eerily similar (but probably worse) with their solar-RAY capturing photovoltaic panels.

time will tell which superpower did the worse crime, the one we, the Demonic Empire, did by murdering a few million people for no reason but to scare another country, a thing which all demons agreed was good at the time but we have now agreed is Controversial^TM^, or the new crime that the Inscrutable Bureuocracy is now committing where they provide infrastructure.

this is what racist white boomers actually believe

Power generating wind turbines and bomb-dropping warplanes are basically the same, you see, because they are both technology that is physically above you.

There are always these claims that 'China isn't doing things out of "good will" but out of self-interest' as if the alignment of those 2 things isn't amazing and in itself a much better development than so called 'charity' (read: hidden evil agendas). The Global South can rely on China according to very logical, rational, and not easily moved sets of interest. China (hopefully, I trust so) is doing this as part of a strategy to reach communism, but they announce this and there is very little chance that they pull the bullshit that the US always pulls. The self-interests are clear to everyone, so moving within that space has little risks and tons of chances

Yeah you read these reports from the countries and they're always like "china made a deal with us and they kept their word so things are good". Meanwhile we have to get a fucking investigative reporter digging into old deals the Americans made in the same global South countries to learn america made deals, got what they wanted and then dumped some cheap ass shit that broke within a week and then offered to sell them more trash that would constantly require more money and leave them reliant on American support.

Gee I wonder why the global South doesn't trust the west.

This is an insane paragraphe, what the hell

[–] unaware@hexbear.net 25 points 1 month ago

That's right librurl, haven't you considered that building wind turbines is actually as bad as transforming a place into the most bombed country in history per capita?

My favorite excerpt was the section where they described the brainwashed Chinese corporate drones in a restaurant, all dressed identically (varied business attire—NO WOMEN!!!), and all chanting nefarious phrases like, "Congrats, boss!"

Mine was when the landscape was blighted and bombed and the only trees grew around craters, and they're like 'china removing ordnance and building roads is kinda like imperialism via debt if you think about it'

Donald Trump sided with fossil fuels because he is a neo-fascist and a dumbass, and he picked wrong.

What is western consumerism and the American war machine costing countries like Tuvalu, Samoa, the Marshall Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, the Maldives, Palau, the Seychelles, Bangladesh, Egypt and most US coastal cities?

You're fucked if you're born in those Pacific Island states, rampant health issues and no potential to even gain capital outside of remote work, and then they call North Korea the worst place to be, smh

I still think many USians aren't lost causes, but boy howdy do they try to disabuse me of that notion on a regular basis.

if we airdropped them into a good society they'd behave better but the trouble is getting the contiguous mass to change.
