That is a very stylish rack. Nice setup overall.

Edit: ouch, nice and pricey.

[–] markstos@lemmy.world 19 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Needs a painting or a rug to really pull the room together.

[–] CluckN@lemmy.world 19 points 5 days ago

A painting of a rug would be perfect

[–] Ugurcan@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I would say your music could benefit a lot from a rug that diffuses some sound waves.

(Also a short stand for speakers)

Nice job on cables though!

[–] pineapple@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 days ago

what's with all these speaker jokes?

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 16 points 5 days ago

Homelab being finished? That's heresy!

[–] besbin@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 days ago

Where did you get that table top for the rack? Is that a DIY?

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

A homelab is never finished.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 days ago

That’s a legitimately beautiful setup.

[–] DarkSpectrum@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Add a plant

Where subwoofers

[–] rehydrate5503@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Nice and clean. Amazing cable management.

I have to ask, why the giant 4u cases if you have such a minimal set up inside (no dgpu, 4 nvme drives, no hdds)? Did you get a smoking deal on them (I got one that looks to be the same for $50 😎), or just to future proof in case you want to throw 40 hdds in them some day?

[–] snd@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 5 days ago (2 children)

It's nice not to have to fit everything into 1U or 2U enclosures, and yes, also a bit of future-proofing.

[–] Cobrachicken@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Plus, space for big Noctuas to minimize noise? (That the way I went.)

[–] rehydrate5503@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

That’s fair. Must be nice and cool in there for all your components haha.

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Oh, it's never finished. There is always just one more thing.

Also specs?

[–] snd@discuss.tchncs.de 19 points 5 days ago

Top (my desktop)

  • AMD Ryzen 5 8500G (no dGPU, because I do 90% of my work in the terminal)
  • 1 TB NVME
  • 32 GB DDR5
  • NixOS

Bottom (server)

  • AMD Ryzen 5 5600G
  • 8 GB RAM DDR4
  • in total 4 TB NVME
  • NixOS

(nvme and noctua only)

[–] untorquer@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Missing anime posters or, alternatively, random and poorly painted landscape art.

[–] antifa_ceo@lemmy.ml 6 points 5 days ago

Finished...for now.

[–] theorangeninja@sopuli.xyz 6 points 5 days ago

The cable sleeve joining the cables from the keyboard and mouse and then going around the monitor stand looks soo smooth.

[–] jaykrown@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

A second monitor is what's missing.

[–] comrade19@lemmy.world -3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

'if you go fuck a dude and he has 2 monitor's and a light up keyboard, just go home'

[–] Crashumbc@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Luckily I have 3!

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 days ago

You forgot to plug everything in.

[–] LumiNocta@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

May I ask. What is it you do on these systems, as in why do you need something like this?

[–] sunbeam60@lemmy.one 11 points 4 days ago

To securely, privately, rapidly download and store a variety of of Linux distributions. Almost all homelab is about downloading and storing Linux distributions.

[–] rf_@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Out of curiosity to think about what to do with my life, what do you do for a living? Software engineer?

[–] snd@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 5 days ago

I am currently completing my bachelor's degree in computer science. Once this is finished, I will begin a master's program. I assume this information is not really helpful to you, sorry.

[–] HandMadeArtisanRobot@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Looks amazing! Those speakers would sound 10x better if they were closer to ear-level. It made a big difference in my setup.

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 days ago

Get some angled wedges!

It's not complete until there is a cat napping on the keyboard.

[–] chaoticnumber@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

how many watts does it chug on average? Sweet setup.

[–] poVoq@slrpnk.net 3 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Isn't that way too noisy right next to your work desk? Especially if you do audio recordings there?

[–] tofu@lemmy.nocturnal.garden 3 points 5 days ago

I guess you migrated to homeserver then.

What's in there?

[–] InFerNo@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 days ago

Very nice and clean!

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

fair enough. mine is a single mini pc with loads of ram, because that's perfectly fine for what i want to do.

server workloads for just a few users won't demand too much hardware. if it's good, it's good, and your physical setup seems nice enough already.

[–] crazyminner@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Clearly you don't data hoard. Us Data hoarders are never finished.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 1 points 4 days ago

I data hoard and my storage fits in one of those Rosewill chassis. They can fit a lot of drives.

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 1 points 5 days ago

tbf if you set it up well, all you usually have to do is add more storage.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Those speakers look nice. If I weren't addicted to having 3 monitors I'd aim for something like this

[–] coaxil@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Get those speakers decoupled from the table and pointing at your ear holes!

[–] Nalivai@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Those are called headphones

[–] pineapple@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 days ago

That is until you run out of space to store linux iso's.

[–] maracuya@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 days ago

what desk is that, and would you recommend it?

[–] barnaclebutt@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago (2 children)
[–] JASN_DE@feddit.org 3 points 5 days ago

Considering the hardware listed in this thread: likely nearly inaudible.

[–] snd@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Well, let's put it this way: I sleep in the same room :)

[–] InFerNo@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 days ago

I take it you need whitenoise to sleep then

[–] tordenflesk@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

Monitor/speaker-arms maybe?
