Like, Nessus Prime? I thought that was only mentioned in text by the Living Refinery. We never see a map of it in game

What's the current best means of playing Alpha Centauri on modern hardware? Not that I need even more hours in the game...
Download it off gog and play it. It runs fine.
If you want some modern civ features like mouse panning the map and overlays, use PRACX.
I never played it back in the day, got into 4X at the tail end of Civ 3 and my formative experiences where with Civ 4/5, so the GOG version is my standard point of reference.
Mouse panning the map sounds unbelievably helpful.
You can get it on Steam, I assume it would work through that.
