Just lie, say self employment as like... Anything. IT services are great for this because nobody can fucking check anything if it doesn't exist anymore. Or just "painter and decorator" is pretty good. Gardening services. The kinds of things you can cold call people for and there'll be odd jobs people need doing.

Pretty much anyone could pretend to have done a variety of IT services as self employed without any ability to verify any of it. Say you were the top seller for search optimisation services on Fiverr. It's impossible to verify and easily makes more than enough income for one person a year to justify it.

Yep "my uncle hired me for landscaping" nobody asks more.

No worries, it works and is actually a selling point to some. There's no need to admit unemployment ever.

Ive been to double digit job interviews this year and gotten nothing, I'm going back to school instead now lmao agony-deep

I went to a job interview and got ghosted by HR, I sat in the lobby for half an hour before stealing a magazine and leaving

Another interview was 3 hours long (agony-mescaline) and they ghosted me

I got a rejection email 4 months later so thats something I guess

[–] mrfugu@hexbear.net 22 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

man the ghosting kills me. how is that in any way professional

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 24 points 2 weeks ago

Professionalism is when we make you eat endless shit and you never complain

I got myself into a situation where I needed a job NOW and almost two years later I'm still delivering boxes for Amazon. Gonna put my diplomas up in the un-air-conditioned cargo hold

Looking for a job on top of 10 hour days in 100 degree weather is just too much...

i applied to about a thousand jobs over the course of 2 years but i gave up, it was ruining my mental health

no one wants to hire someone who needs disability accommodations

[–] FedPosterman5000@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Yeah I worked through trying to get accommodations at work, got a small fraction of what I asked for, and have been suffering since. It’s probably in my head, but I feel like it mostly made things worse. This is why people suffer in silence; at least that way there’s no retribution

[–] TheSpectreOfGay@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

they say that they're very accepting and accommodating, but at the end of the day a capitalist will never do something that'd hurt their bottom line. making money is way more important than throwing scraps to the people making them that money

[–] FedPosterman5000@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It’s been a very humbling experience -was diagnosed later in life and mask/present as “typical”. Seemed to go:

Me: ahh finally learned why I feel the way I do - I’ll feel so much being able to accept myself!

Them: hey put that mask back on! No one wants to see that!!

At least when I was delusional, there was less self loathing

[–] TheSpectreOfGay@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

cuddle i feel you, went through about the same myself

[–] FedPosterman5000@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

Appreciate it. At least we can try to use the experience to help others!

[–] FedPosterman5000@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

But at least the whole process was also dehumanizing

[–] DexterRSX@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This is real, the moment I say I have Autism, I'm not getting hired and it fucking sucks.

Been volunteering in Community Radio for a while now, it doesn't pay but it's at least shit to tide me over, but atp I doubt I'll ever have a job that isn't volunteering, thank god for parents and the albeit small Canadian Social Safety Net.

[–] TheSpectreOfGay@hexbear.net 1 points 1 week ago

basically same for me, im trying to get on disability aid and just volunteer places

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 27 points 2 weeks ago

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? layoff-stare

Either fighting in the revolution or dying in the water wars.

[–] GayTuckerCarlson@hexbear.net 26 points 2 weeks ago

If they say "We'll let you know by Friday" then you didn't get the job

[–] MayoPete@hexbear.net 26 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm honestly surprised more people aren't going postal at workplaces. There's a lot of wannabe Charlie Kirks that love to make people jump through hoops for $12/hr

[–] T34_69@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Guns and ammo are pricey these days, much like everything else

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Capitalism solving the mass shooter problem by making people too poor to afford guns

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

the guns are easily affordable, its the ammo that'll kill ya

[–] Orcocracy@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago

Oh just like razors and inkjet printers and phone contracts and smart TVs and fucking everything else in this scam zone we all live in

[–] MayoPete@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

Do they have Temu guns? Pew pew for the penny pinchers?

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 23 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I spent 2 years looking for a tech job, with 10 years experience in the roles I was shooting for. Its fucking ROUGH out there. Luckily I started working for a nonprofit via Americorps right now, but if there's any people who want to apply to software companies, hit me up and I can share some sites that aren't on the beaten path that got me some interviews.

It fucking sucks, and im underemployed now but im in the "at least its something" camp, plus its good work so hopefully this next year let's me career pivot into homelessness work

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago

same.. im about 1 year in and though i've had a few interviews, they've all been real WTF moments.. 4 years ago all i had to do was think about looking for a job and i'd have 3 offers lined up.. now i get the first interview, the guy can't find my resume, doesn't listen to a word I say, doesn't know anything about the job he's interviewing me for, and then i get the rejection afterward. this is the craziest shit

[–] stink@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Is hiring.cafe one of those sites?

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago

No, I was thinking more Idealist and whatever Angels List (the job board for tech startups) rebranded to

[–] Anxious_Anarchist@hexbear.net 21 points 2 weeks ago

My contract ended early where I was working and I've been applying to things nonstop for the last two months, not a single place has responded to me.

[–] Grownbravy@hexbear.net 20 points 2 weeks ago

I couldnt even land a job DRIVING A FUCKING TRUCK.

[–] segfault11@hexbear.net 19 points 2 weeks ago

I'm not yet looking for a job, but I'm not looking forward to getting into it side-eye-1

[–] 666@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

If I end up losing this job because of bullshit I'll just start selling shit again lmao

[–] stink@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 2 weeks ago

Told myself if i lose this job im just gonna teach

[–] AFineWayToDie@hexbear.net 15 points 2 weeks ago

I spent almost 2 years looking, then I lucked out and found out that my old job from about 20 years ago was open again. My old boss was even still there. I'd probably still be looking otherwise.

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 13 points 2 weeks ago

i don't put any gaps.. i just extend the date of my last job to the start of my next one. No one knows, no one cares.

[–] vala@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 2 weeks ago

Why don't they just ask chatGPT since it seems to be ingrained into every single other part of the hiring process now?

[–] Sickos@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago
[–] tamagotchicowboy@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago

Yep, I'm trying to get out of my particular retail hell, this place fucking sucks, I'm so chained to the register all closing shift I can't even go pee or drink water, fucking full on labor violations but no one gaf few coworkers tried reporting and no luck, and I already have shitty kidneys. I have such bad luck I can't even catch another equally shitty job for an interview to scare people off. It doesn't help I live in a pornographically poor rural Gummo hellhole, so all that's available are retail hell jobs and hellish medical. Online jobs scarce af, and I'm so thoroughly burnt out at my in person job I've fucked up on my online job I'm on my last warning for performance, my health has also taken a huge hit, talk about a ridiculous catch22.

Right now I'm really eyeing some hell medical jobs that offer paid training since its a way out, but I'll probably get ghosted after the interview, if I even make it that far.

the gap keeps growing and the employers keep leaving kitty-cri-potato

a clay tablet from the state archives of Assyria, dating from some time between 911 and 609 BC.

The surviving contents of the tablet read:

To the deputy (governor), my lord: your servant Aššur-reṣiwa. Good health to my lord!

Why is my lord silent (while) I wag my tail and run about like a dog? I have sent three letters to my lord. Why does my lord not consent to send an answer to (my) letter? Let my lord return me to my office. As much as I served your father, so let me now serve you!
