If you're head-in on an MRI at 35, hopefully it's from an accident.

[–] WR5@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

What is pictured is a CT machine, not an MRI.

[–] lemmyman@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

This changes everything

[–] 13igTyme@piefed.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

It's also of their abdomen., not head.

[–] veniasilente@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 weeks ago

I can think that if it's not from an accident then it's something worse.

What was Siemens doing during 1935 through to 1945?

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

They're actually super open about that:

https://www.siemens.com/global/en/company/about/history/stories/siemens-and-national-socialism.html

I don't think I've seen a company post on their website: "We used forced labor to make war materiel for Nazi's, and that's bad"

[–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Well, I just quit a company they bought. Based on the policies and procedures that completely ruined our company culture, I can guess.

For many men, Siemens barely works when you are 55.

[–] ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

This really tells the age of everyone here

Siemens made knockoff Nokia phones? I trust Siemens a lot, they're a quality manufacturer, but I don't think I ever saw anyone use a Siemens back in the pre-smart phone days.

From wikipedia:

The phone included a WAP browser and two games: Stack Attack and Balloon Shooter.

WAP browser you say..

They were very common here, my first ever phone was a Siemens C25, and some years later Siemens A50 was so cheap, a lot of my friends had that. But I guess these couldn't help the mobile branch of Siemens, it was sold to Benq in 2005. It existed from 1985 to 2005 only.

[–] Justas@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah, I remember owning one of these, Siemens C65. It was one of the first camera phones:

[–] RedSnt@feddit.dk 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Maybe the fashion was different based on country, because like I mentioned, in Denmark Nokia was definitely more widespread until the colour screens pre-smart phone era came along.

[–] idegenszavak@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 weeks ago

From 2000 to 2005 they were in the top 4 manufacturers worldwide: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_mobile_phones#2000_2

Sometimes you only want to make one trip but you need a cell phone, building systems control system, and a motor for your electric locomotive. Siemens understands and the got you.

[–] M137@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

That exact model was kinda common here in Sweden too (along with the countries of others who replied).

I don't think I've seen it since then and the nostalgia hit me like a brick. I distinctly remember how rubbery and mushy the buttons were, in a weirdly good way.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 4 points 2 weeks ago

My first - 1999 iirc - was a Siemens. And yes they really felt like cheap Nokia knockoffs.

[–] TacoButtPlug@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Did the browser park its big mac truck right in a little garage?

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Idk the seamen I was playing with at 12 was completely different.

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Premier league football cards featuring David Seaman?

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Maybe they mean the game for the Dreamcast

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There also used to be one for the years in between: Amilo. As an early Linux adopter it still makes me shudder.

"uninspired looks" ... "the most impressive thing about the V3515 is its (...) price tag"

*shudder*

There were many Amilos btw. and it stands to reason that some were better but the most common ones were all shitty.

I distinctly remember one that had no Linux driver for its wifi card but it would not accept another one. Vendor lock-in or whatchamacallit.

Isn't the sex thing woman ride for pleasure also called a Siemen or something real close?

Asking for a friend.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's a Sybian. They about halfway in cost between those two pics

[–] staph@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think that's that old mobile OS. You're probably thinking of Symbian.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

No, that's an ancient greek prophetess or oracle. You're thinking of a suborder of primates.

[–] Baggie@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

Nah Siemens gave me redundancy at 33

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 1 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Branding on a cell phone makes sense in that you want people to see the brand of your customer's cell phone. There is a lot of people in the market for a new cell phone.

Branding a MRI machine? The people who you use it ain't going to be buying a MRI.

[–] huppakee@feddit.nl 8 points 2 weeks ago

If they only sold mri machines it'd make much less sense, but they sell a lot of stuff and their name on a healthcare machine increases trust. When you sell stuff like this brand perception can go a very long way. That aside execs and designers might feel very proud to have produced this machine. But carry on with your scepticism, it's good practice.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

They very well may be. And with a company like Siemens the branding can build brand recognition and indicate quality. Maybe you aren't buying an MRI but if you have to buy industrial equipment or specialty electronics you're gonna run into them sometimes

[–] Waraugh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

I don’t think it’s an MRI machine

[–] Michal@programming.dev 0 points 2 weeks ago

Close.

This was my Siemens at 12.

This is my Siemens at 35.
