Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body.

If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include not just the twitter.com URL but also Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source (archive.today, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org). Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed.

Mass-tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken Markov chain bot will result in a comm ban.

Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.

Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned.

Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society.

when's bernie going to call it genocide?

[–] MolotovHalfEmpty@hexbear.net 20 points 2 months ago (1 children)

My money is on never. No matter if there's ICC action or global agreement. Maybe, maybe you might get some mealy mouthed thing like "this tragedy, which the ICC has ruled a genocide" far too late. But at best he's too enraptured with the idea of an Israeli state in some vain hope it can one day be more socialist Kibbutz inspired than overtt Zionazi concentration camp state. Plus honestly at this point I think he's a grumpy old man who actively resents the idea of giving ground to younger pro-Palestinian people who he sees as making problems for his comeback campaign.

I remember Chris Hedges recalling an anecdote of a conversation he, Bernie, and Kshama Sawant had about moving a third party and Bernie responded that he didn't want to be pushed out like Ralph Nader was. i.e, his career was more important than actually trying to start a movement.

So, the obvious question becomes, "Now what?" Are we going to see actual movement from Russia, China, or really anyone in green on this map:

Or is it just going to be business as usual? The cynic in me knows its going to be business as usual.

Why is France green on the map? Did they already vote on the UN on this?

Oh, its one year ago, 2024.

  • this year Canada and Australia want to join I heard?
  • how was France/Macron saying they where going to accept it now this September, when they already accepted it in 2024?
[–] RION@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago

This was a vote on the occupation, I think the new thing with France is recognizing Palestinian statehood

And liberals will ignore it or pretend China made them say this

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 28 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Nah, they'll trot this out and use it as a cudgel against Trump

They will conveniently ignore that

A. Most of it happened under a Dem admin and

B. Said Dem admin subverted Congress to keep sending Israel military hardware to use

And we'll get a bunch of op ed thinkpieces written by people with 600 funko pops about how Harris would totally have prevented all of this

Israel has already said the UN Commissioners are "working as a Hama proxy." i'm not even kidding.

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

If an Israeli stares into the sun until it hurts their eyes the sun becomes a Hamas proxy

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 22 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Oh so they're going to do something, right anakin-padme-2

[–] CommunistBear@hexbear.net 22 points 2 months ago (2 children)

So what happens to that whole law about not supporting genocide? Obviously they've been ignoring it this whole time but now that it's "official" will anything change?

[–] RION@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago

The UN says it cannot make a legal determination as to whether a situation constitutes genocide under international law. It says a situation is referred to as genocide only after a competent national or international court has declared it as such.

Nothing ever happens

The Israeli military launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the unprecedented Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage.

At least 64,964 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since then, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry, whose figures are seen as reliable by the UN.

Love to qualify the sourcing and reliability of one number and not the other
