I made a Lemmy thread asking for movie recommendations, and quite a few people went out of their way to be helpful. My personal situation is not great, and I'm sick so I don't have energy to do much, so it's been nice to lay in bed and watch a lot of good movies. I doubt the people in the thread realize how helpful it's been, but it was just a nice little humanity moment.

Ooooh what suggestions did you get?
Hundreds of suggestions haha.
I'm on holiday this week - so there's that for a start - and then my wife, who has a long-term illness, is greatly improved recently and we were able to get out for the first real countryside walk that she's been able to for well over a year, so we are both very happy about that.
She didn't overdo it either, so it looks like we will be able to head out for at least another one or two this week.
I went on a weekend trip and it was awesome. Best moment was a cat on a roof under a rooftop bar trying to catch bugs around one of the lights, where from the street you could just see the silhouette of a cat going bonkers, having a lovely time, in this thin area between the 4th floor and the rooftop bar area.
I was able to fix my phone's USB port. It was so bad that none of the cables would stay plugged in no matter how hard I pushed them in.
I was almost certain that I would need to replace it somehow, but then I tried taking some thin tweezers and was able to scrape some crud out of it and now the cables snap in place like it was new.
My new job is mega chill! I also made my first IRL MtF trans acquaintance (also pretty chill and basically, from what I gathered, a nerdy weed-enthusiast, which is at least 10% of my personality, lol), and she invited me to her upcoming leaving drinks, so that's all pretty cool. 👍
My daughter is a toddler, and watching her personality grow is a delight.
She ran into the kitchen this morning, so I asked her what she wanted to eat.
"Baagul!" You want a bagel sweety? "Hmph! I meant it!" Ok hon, I'll make you a bagel.
My partner and I managed to take our newborn out yesterday to a garden centre, where we had breakfast. I know it's not much but we're slowly building our confidence in going out with the little one.
What an exciting step! Your whole life has changed how are you finding it?
Thanks for asking!
Honestly so far the only hard thing about it is the lack of sleep. When my partner and I have a bad night's sleep it just makes everything else that bit more difficult. But when we see the little one crack an involuntary smile, or do a funny little fart, or makes a cute little sound it kind of lightens the load a little bit.
My patience is definitely pushed to its limit at times, but having my partner there to support me, and vice versa, allows us to get through it.
Yep absolutely everyone finds this time rough, I'm really glad there's so many positives with it. You and your partner having a strong relationship will definitely help and I'm glad you have each other
I booked a hostel for Paris at the end of October... That's kinda how my travel seems to be going lately. See upcoming event in far-away place, think "Huh I wonder how much it would be to go?", discover it is well within my means, and then just do it.
I had originally wanted to go to Art Basel in Miami, because I figured living on the East coast of the USA, traveling to another East coast city would be less expensive than Paris or Switzerland... I got the email that Art Basel Paris tickets are now on sale, and I was like "I wonder...", and it ended up being only like $100 more for a 5 day trip to Paris than a similar trip to Miami...
Also I hiked 11 miles in 3 hours last Friday and my legs weren't even sore, and I've lost another 5 pounds, so... next year is going to be bonkers for hiking I can already tell. I'm trying to get into backpacking (backpack camping), and also with the realization that international travel isn't that expensive... I might be doing some worldly hikes, which would be an amazing way to see the world.
