I promise we won't put you in the concentration camps. (Unless we need another group to target)

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 14 points 1 month ago

don't you worry, it's only a shower
and for your clothes, a pretty flower

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Maybe throw in a pinky swear?

[–] bestagon@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Unfortunately, as I hear it, South Korea is also in a bit of a scare

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 37 points 1 month ago

everywhere is. but south korea and brazil have responded the best of anyone. nepal might soon take the top spot, first we have to wait and see if their revolution goes the way of syria's, with internal and external factors exploiting the situation. so far though the nepali people have demonstrated a strong sense of unity that will hopefully help carry them through

[–] Mamdani_Da_Savior@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I lived in Korea for a very long time, the Korean democracy is significantly stronger then our own democracy.

[–] bestagon@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I’ll take your word for it. I’m going off of msm reporting which, as we all know, is pretty alarmist clickbait most of the time

[–] Mamdani_Da_Savior@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Koreans don't tolerate BS like we do.

[–] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 112 points 1 month ago (3 children)

International companies should all start mothballing manufacturing plants in the U.S. First remove all sensitive documents and machinery before announcing anything.

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Volkswagen in Tennessee, BMW in South Carolina and Daimler-Benz in Alabama should be the first three to vacate.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago

Toyota employs 470K+ workers in the United States. Imagine if they just said fuck it and pulled up stakes...

[–] FrowingFostek@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] 1995ToyotaCorolla@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You fill it full of mothballs?

[–] dellish@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

It would take a lot. Moths are pretty small.

[–] Wilco@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 month ago

Agreed, just fucking let it grind down.

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 112 points 1 month ago (1 children)

This is the right way to deal with this administration.

They don't negotiate in good faith. What trust do you have on a government who will rip up any agreement you made with it to satisfy the alt right?

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 46 points 1 month ago (4 children)

Alt-right? Didn't you get the memo? Fascists.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 26 points 1 month ago (3 children)

"Alt-right" is a bit of an obsolete euphemism at this point (since normal people are finally starting to catch on that those of us who've been calling them "fascists" for a decade really weren't exaggerating), but it's not inaccurate.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

“Alt-right” is a bit of an obsolete euphemism at this point (since normal people are finally starting to catch on that those of us who’ve been calling them “fascists” for a decade really weren’t exaggerating), but it’s not inaccurate.

It pisses me off that there are still so-called "independents" and Elevated Centrists that are even still, this week, today, telling people like me that it's "hysterical" and "mean" and we should mind our "tone" when calling these dickheads what they are: Nazis.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

The thing I've been repeating? We literally hanged people exactly like Charlie Kirk for crimes against humanity at Nuremberg. If Kirk were alive in 1930s Germany, he would have been challenging people to debate him about "the Jewish question."

[–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Exactly.

It used to mean the far right that wasn’t mainstream Republicans, now it’s the mainstream so there’s nothing alt about it any more.

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I might be being a bit pedantic. When I say "alt-right", I'm referring to the base of supporters.

Fascists, to me, means the people empowered by the state who are seeking power for themselves.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago

If somone suports those fascists even with just thoughts and prayers, they too are fascists.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 12 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

I prefer MAGA Nazi, or PedoCon, or, y'know, the simplicity of Traitor.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 month ago

These are all suitable overlaps in the Venn diagram of naming the beast each with their own preferred context.

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

I simply call the fucking MAGAts "neo-Nazis."

[–] unwarlikeExtortion@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago

When Alt-right turns into "default center", then yes, you have Fascism.

[–] MrSulu@lemmy.ml 91 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Exam question: Why should non-US companies invest in the US if the company owners, operators, main team and staff could be rounded up with summary conviction and removal?

[–] sparky@lemmy.federate.cc 29 points 1 month ago

They shouldn’t, and this lesson is likely to ensure few further companies will.

[–] TwinTitans@lemmy.world 61 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Set up shop somewhere stable. Fuck this constant division displayed in the USA.

[–] Mamdani_Da_Savior@lemmy.world 33 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I truly hope S. Korea just shuts down the factory and tells America to get fucked.

[–] ronl2k@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No need to shut down the factory. Simply wait for the US to elect a sane president.

I think they wouldn't have any immigration related issues if they set up in California.

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 47 points 1 month ago

The South Koreans made the correct decision.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 36 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They would have been insane to have stayed. Sad, South Korea is a valuable strategic ally and trading partner and this is the way we treat their citizens.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

Were happy to have them in Canada

[–] Mamdani_Da_Savior@lemmy.world 29 points 1 month ago

So here's some background on how espesically done this raid was.

Those Koreans where there to BUILD THE FACTORY, why? Because all the designs, instructions, etc are all in Korean. Also those Koreans are career professionals, they are engineers essentially, and probably highly compensated. This move was so fucking stupid, them leaving means that factory doesn't get finished on time or even if they'd finish it at all.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 22 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I think the Daily Show bit where they had Josh Johnson punching himself in the nads was a perfect allegory of so much of what Taco is doing to this country...

Hey, magamushbrains - how is this making us "great" again?

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 month ago

You know their answer to that.

“We should be giving those jobs to white christians. Everyone else isn’t even American.”

[–] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I'm amazed that he is picking fights with not only our best and most important allies (Canada, S Korea, etc) but also with countries we've been trying to court for decades like India. Absolutely incompetent diplomacy. It feels like nothing is off the table when it comes to sacrificing for pandering to the MAGAs.

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

How many times does it have to be said: TRUMP IS A RUSSIAN PUPPET.

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago
[–] RedGreenBlue@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

So what wad the purpose of this raid? Steal business secrets?

[–] nagaram@startrek.website 13 points 1 month ago

Dumber, ice quota

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

I'm sure this move made Putin happy. Oddly enough like everything else trump does to dismantle the US form within and isolate us from every ally and trading partner.
